Much like the GLE, it looks more physically impressive in person. It looked great at NYIAS today.
Although I'm not in New York, I was about to say the same. Videos and real life photos does the car more justice than the press photos.

Spyshots were worrying but the finish product meets the brief. Can't wait to see how mighty it looks in person.

Living in the UK I would never buy one as it's too big for our old cities and cramped multistorey parking building.

I'm not yet sold on the base variant, it almost seems like they need a 'luxury' line, but I'm absolutely smitten with the AMG kitted version.

Looks incredible from profile in amg trim.

Don’t like that second row captains chairs are covered in carpet

You absolutely have to opt for the AMG trim on this vehicle to make it look decent.

Yes you do. It looks bland and uninspiring. The white one with AMG pack looks decent. I mentioned in the spy thread that under that camo it did not look promising and i was right.

But ofcourse, how dare us mere mortals have an opposing opinion to any Merc product especially one as blatantly boring as this one.

Lol, honestly I think they agree with me about the GLS looking very anonymous without AMG trim, but because I’m the one whose making that observation they have to disagree.

When this is how they really feel

If I had children, this would no doubt be my choice of transportation. It has a powerful and menacing design, yet elegantly restrained and not tacky and over-designed. Even the standard body kit looks good, which is something the previous GLS lacked. I can't wait to see the designo and Maybach versions.

Having seen the new GLE(AMG trim) in person, I think that both it and the GLS comes across softer and rounder in photos than they do in person.

Although I prefer the AMG trimmed GLS, I doubt that the car with it’s huge body and prominent lights will look anonymous in person.

I get you man, to each their own.

Even the full fat Range Rover looks soft in photos compared with the more angular X7 and Cullinan. Yet in person, the Range Rover looks absolutely fine. However I think interesting alloy designs will add some zest to the base GLS.

I disagree that looks good, it’s boxy and the angularity shows, similar to the X7 the GLS is just round, but thats “sensual purity” for you.

Let’s move this conversation to the X7 vs GLS thread think it’s much more appropriate there.

It looks better with the AMG pack, however, without it, it looks like an elongated Toyota Highlander with better haunches.

I think this design theme works better on the GLE because I get a more tough, bulldog stance with that. It's certainly not ugly, but outside of the rear haunches, I really don't find any details that pulls me in and intrigues me.

Same with the interior. It's eons better than it's long-in-the-tooth predecessor. Material looks to be up-to-snuff with some questionable details, i.e. still can't get over how many vents, real and faux, are on the dash; transmission stalk. I find MBUX to be quite impressive, and that may be something that might help put it over the top if I was in the (dis)position to choose which luxo-barge I'd want.

At the end, I am going to be diplomatic (read: wishy-washy) in that either the X7 or GLS are both good choices. It comes down to how much a similarly equipped is out-of-pocket, both at time of purchase and projected long-term, either one is, how comfortable the ride is, and the least cumbersome interface. I am confident performance for either one is more than acceptable in either 6 or 8-cyl guise.

Ok, I think it looked terrible in the first leaked pics, but it's starting to seriously grow on me now. Great sets of pics.

Second and third row accommodations looks similar to last gen but that boot looks materially bigger with all rows up. Once again Benz works miracles with the packaging of this vehicle. If you want a supremely functional awesome looking vehicle this is it. If you want a little more style at the expense of function, X7 is the way

Of course base trim is merely decent. That’s always been the case with this vehicle as they always play it conservative for the 80% they sell to mothers that don’t care about rims and aggressive bumpers and body colour wheel arches. Nothing wrong with that reality. Not sure people take such offense to this comment!!
