G-Class [Official] Mercedes-Benz G-Class (W464)

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, colloquially known as the G-Wagon or G-Wagen (as an abbreviation of Geländewagen), is a four-wheel drive luxury SUV manufactured by Magna Steyr (formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch) in Graz, Styria, Austria, and sold by Mercedes-Benz. Originally developed as a military off-roader, later more luxurious models were added to the line. In certain markets, it was sold under the Puch name as Puch G until 2000.

Potentially one of the least depreciating electric cars around too - time will tell.
Supply and demand...

MB can release a few models as possible , still make profit , and keep the hype up for a long time.

Let's see how the market evolves.

My bet is on depreciating...Lots of it.

There is absolutely no EV out there that is doing the other way. Maybe the Spectre , but that is a different animal.

This is not specific to BEVs. All expensive cars lose value quickly unless they are limited, special production.

Imagine your average G owner , full of Balenciagas and bust down APs , standing next to their car , waiting to charge...

Or the average female G owner , waiting for someone to plug their cars to charge.

Haha...

Like , NEVER...

I love that that in this scenario a woman doesn't charge her own car, as if that's an impossibility. :ROFLMAO:

In any event, if you're like my neighbor who just can't wait to park her future G580 next to her husband's G63, you just charge at home like everyone else who has a lot of money and doesn't want to deal with public chargers.

Those who buy the electric G will have many cars in their garage. Weather conditions and range are not their problem.

Exactly. This is a non issue.

No.Absolutely no.

There are lots of limited , special production cars that drop in value like hell. It has nothing to do with it.

Supply and demand

G wagon is produced 10 times as many as it did 10-20 years ago , per year. The demand is high , because today is such a "cool thing to drive an wagon" .

When the demand will drop , and the supply will keep as it is , or more , the value of second hand market will drop.

Until then , watch Insta-twerks....

Haha, yeah jealous of Mercedes, the shining star. We all are aren't we?

If Jaguar had screwed a battery to one of it's ICE and released a car with same shitty specs, we would mocking it to no end. But, it has a star, and apparently that is a magic underwear in this forum and everything is a "non-issue".

All the excuses aside, the painful truth is Mercedes doesn't have the engineering ability or the will to release a competitive EV.

Jaguar isn't in a position to do that, as their ICE cars already sucked. The other half of that truth is that no matter what Mercedes did some here would find problem with it. If they had waited to introduce a bespoke G EV, the complaints would be that it took them too long. I get that you're being hyperbolic about them screwing a battery to an ICE, we know it took more than that. You never answered as to why you're judging the EV G by new criteria vs the ICE version which didn't do any of those things before.

The default G wagon, isn't the biggest truck, doesn't have the roomiest cabin, doesn't have the most luggage space, doesn't tow the most, doesn't have the deepest wading depth, and has diabolical fuel economy. But it's a desirable product anyway.

If you want a better tool, you can get Wrangler Rubicon, or an F150. If you want more passenger space, you can get an X7 or Escalade or GLS. But people who buy one, don't want those things.

Exactly, but the criteria changes for an EV it seems in the EV loving community.

What areas would that be?

It can off-road 80-90% as well as dedicated off-road trail vehicles. It's ladder frames and has three locking diffs and a myriad of cameras and sensors to make it extremely capable off-road. It absolutely and completely outclasses pretty much every luxury unibody SUV out there and even a few body-on-frame SUVs.

It's also a very good luxury product, with interior quality, refinement and build quality that matches all but the very best luxury unibody SUVs. It lacks a little in interior space compared to the unibody offerings like the GLE or X5 and their larger compatriots, but it's good enough. And beyond that the interior quality and refinement completely outclasses pretty much every dedicated off-road trail vehicles.

On top of that it has an instantly recognisable, iconic and unique look. Anyone and everyone knows what a G wagon is pretty much on sight. It has a distinctly old world charm. Even JLRs recent attempts at reviving the Defender can't really compare, as good-looking and capable as that vehicle is. And of course the strength of the brand also comes into play, whether you like it or not it plays a factor. Nobody would buy a rear-engined sports car without a Porsche badge on it, no matter how good it may be.

All of these things combined, make it something that is greater than the sum of its parts.

This is why I'd own one in vintage blue with white interior. I don't care about diffs or if it cross rivers. It looks so classy like an expensive watch.
