E-Class (W213) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.
I like the new E. It is exactly as predicted, carries the design language of the S and C, no surprise there. The biggest (unpleasant0 surprise for me is that MB teases us with the gorgeous screens from the S class and then makes them options on only the highest specced models, which are likely to retail above $70k with all the other packages they force down your throat. The quintessential quagmire: own a well-optioned C class or a bare-boned E. And really, who buys a Mercedes and specs it bare-boned?

This is true. I was ready to pull the trigger on a well optioned W204 but changed my mind and went for a poverty spec W212 when it was released.

It was okay for a year but when the new car novelty wore off, I started missing stuff like USB and folding rear seats.

Not making that mistake this time though
.. Cover me.... I'm going ALL OUT on the option front!

I don't mean to be rude if you're going to buy a Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Jaaaaaaguar, Land Rover or a Lexus for that matter then do the f#cking job properly and tick almost every single box on the optional list.

It's foolish to buy an executive, luxury car in poverty spec without a single optional. If money is an issue then at least buy it with the optionals that are most sought after when comes to resale time.

In the U.S. leasing is big so resale time isn't as much a concern for the overall market. People will gladly lease a car with very few options and be perfectly content.

To be completely honest, I have a hard time distinguishing the immediate differences between the W213 and the W205. Maybe with the benefit of time and familiarity things will change...

The E class has lost its identity the more i look at the W213 the more and more i see how identical it is to the W205, which is a bad marketing strategy when you can get practically the same car for $20k less. idk why a brand so prestigious would want to homogenize their lineup; the world may never know

You have to look at key differences like the headlight/taillight design and the red reflectors on the rear

Its almost like 1985 when the W124 was launched from headon it had a very similar look to the 190series but was noticeably wider, I think some people may have also been confused at that time until seeing both cars on the road, where the size is more noticeable and they look different.

At first glance headon the W205 and W213 looked hugely similar but look closely and you will see that the W205 C-class has slightly more narrower headlights that end in a point whereas the W213 headlight end is more rounded and less pointy. The W213 rear end is totally different although still bears some resemblance to W205.

Everyone seems to forget this :

This was at a time where the S-Class (and Mercedes brand as a whole) was even more special and prestigious.

Not to mention the lower part of the front bumper is very similar to the A-class AMG pack.

It does seem like an odd strategy in some ways. I think of the uniformity of the Sacco era as being quite utilitarian. You bought into the brand not the model, so to speak. Perhaps this is true now with so much of every facet of the three cars being similar not only on the outside but also the inside with the same switchgear, etc. It just strikes me as odd in an age of individuality and 'self-expression' but perhaps these things don't apply to Mercedes-Benz. I'm not quite sure what to think, to be honest!

Can someone confirm the engine line up and specifications? What engines will be available until the summer? Need to know for possible order candidate.

Between all the generations of E classes, the W211 and W213 are the only ones where the rear side window is not straight where it meets the C pillar. Interesting observation. I's better like this btw. Straight lines work on straight cars and modern cars come out of wind tunnels.

Monster You asked me what I suggest instead of today's digital display, in Spied thread. Customizable! You should be able to choose where you want the speedometer, tachometer, etc.. You should be able to choose the size of them. You should be able to adjust them vertically on the screen. You should be able to choose from 5-10 different layout, each of some of them from earlier models. You should be able to choose how much top speed the speedometer to show, so you get a meter that is clearly in the speeds you usually drive into.

I do not know what the digital display will cost. But it needs Command and Europe will cost extra plus the meter display. It may be $ 5,000 or more for both. Today, you get two additional layouts for the sum. Very bad.

That's correct BBG, but lets not forget W124 had completely different taillights to W201 and W126, and the 3 cars had very different side detailing, whereas the new trio has the same twilight design, two have the same side detailing and the other a variation without a broken dropping line.

I'm not against it, but at the same time I time the similarities are too strong. MB passed from being the one with most variety in their line up to out-audi Audi, in one just generation.....

Edit: I guess the true test will be the new CLS, if it moves things forward or just becomes another xerox copy.......

The CLS will set itself apart. Because of much different dimension, but I also hope we get to see differernt rear and front lights, that's all I ask for :eusa_pray:eusa_pray
