E-CLASS SEDAN + ESTATE: THIS IS WHAT THE ENGINE LOOK...

I thought my problem was with the car rear, but I'm still having difficulties accepting this sad looking E450 with AMG kit, I still believe Mercedes managed to screw the E class.

The only appealing point versus its competitors is the interior. Additionally, plug in hybrid variants will attract many costumers looking for fuel efficient cars.

So, even the E suffers from 4MATIC-itis. If one wants a nice R6 engine, that being gasoline or diesel, you are now forced into AWD (E 400 d 4MATIC/E 450 4MATIC).
The reason why, has probably to do with type approval (emissions et cetera) and costs that come with it.
Apparently that’s not a reason for BMW with it’s facelifted 5er. I can still buy a nice R6 diesel RWD 530 d.

The U.S. model E350 should have been had the 300hp I4. It would be a great selling point, but they pulled it at the last minute. Never understood why, oh @Serpens please??

Apparently it was all cost related. As you probably know there's a fair bit of Lexus owners that ping pong between the two brands. MBUSA couldn't keep the base price low enough at that time with the new motor and they figured [correctly] that fully loaded Lexus ES and fleeing GS owners don't care what's under the hood.

Seems strange to me given the ES starts $10k cheaper but consumers are never logical.

- unnecessary 4 wheel drive;
- excessive weight gain;
- increase of fuel consumption;

There is no such thing as a base model after the W213 MoPf/facelift. MB axed the base model as such. The new line starts with Avantgarde (= the new base model).

These photographs make me once again realize just how difficult it must be for segment-shoppers who are not diehard brand-junkies to make a purchasing decision. Each of the 3 "usual German premium suspects" offer a stellar product. It really all boils down to personal taste...and/or unwaivering brand affinities.

Agree! But for me when i bought the e class was between 5 series and e class, for me the a6 on the same price level being fwd made my decision simple.
