I didn`t realize that the M157 has an extremely wide power band!
The torque is flat, it`s going to be there in the upper RPM range when you need it for passing.

I'm now thinking they missed an opportunity to use variable vane turbos as they probably could have mimicked an electric motors torque curve.
Perhaps they will save that for the M158 Hammer II (my guess).

the torque earth shaking on kick-off but it seemed to die off beyond 3600rpm.

And the amazing thing is that the new standard duty 4.7L turbo V8 now kicks out the same 516lb-ft in the CL550. Now that is progress.

I must admit as someone who has always been more than a bit critical of the W212s' design, that blue E63 looks absolutely amazing !! M-B seems to have a stellar display in general at the L.A. show.

The photograph of that Alubeam CLS63 AMG somehow vaguely reminds me of those chopped and channeled, primer-colored hot rod 1949 Mercurys' of yore.

I believe MB changed that. I read the CLS550 will use a slightly weaker
version of this engine. It`s rated at 402hp and 443lb-ft. (the F/L E550 will be blessed with this same engine)

lOl, I was just rushing out of class when I posted that..
Anyway it seems the new CLS is going toe to toe with the launch of the 2012 M5.

(The 2012 CLS63 and the M5 going to out gun the E63 until F/L time.
The 2014 F/L E63 is really going to fly hard with the Sport-Package M157.)

For me it's this view that is simply sensational:

Sorry for posting it again but it really does deserve another look. The proportions are magnificent: the wheel diameter to sheetmetal ratio, the wheel base, the front overhang, the cab-backward effect, the surfacing, the silhouette, the stance... Going on a bit much dare I say? So what. This thing looks like a charging chariot even when standing still.

This thing looks unbelievable!

The C's time is about to come around again in just a few months, facelift, new engines and a coupe. Stay tuned.

The C is still hot, and don't get me wrong, I don't feel that it's "aging" at all. I was ironically looking at a W212 and W204 sitting side by side earlier today (frontal views), and the precision of the intricate sheetmetal work, sharpness, and character are really worlds apart IMO, which is only truly apparent when you have them side by side. The CLS should make for some more true road-art..... Although, I'll see how it really fits my tastes in just a few hours!
