For the official press release news, see World Premiere: The New Mercedes-Benz CLE
Though overall, I guarantee which one will sell worse.
You post make me sad. As an AMG fan, celebrating the CLE53 over the C63 is barrel scraping. Desperate times. :(

I don't expect the CLE53 to be a big seller. Judging by Mercedes pricing, list price will be equivalent to a BMW M3/M4 and at a 30% price premium over a M440i. A BMW M2 will be cheaper, likely have better interior and Basically, the CLE53 will be terrible value.

Porsche cars price above average but the performance, handling and emotional impact are second to none. The same can't be said about AMG's recent models.

If you buy the CLE53 over other cars you must really love the design or new and shiny objects.

IDK.. this picture right here.. the C63 looks so much better. The headlights seem like they bulge outward too much on the CLE, not to mention the split body lines make the middle body look a bit fat, compared to the C63 with the consistent creased bodyline.

Who buys a German luxury car for value?

Couldn't disagree more. The new generation ICE Mercedes are a refinement of the old ones that have undergone liposuction.

Worry not, because Porsche will also make 4cyl cars soon too.

Also you probably won't be cross shopping an M2 and a CLE.

In Europe where few American cars are for sale, German cars have been kings of value for a long time. Best specs, handling, tech, comfort and design compared with rivals at the same price. They are just damn good and respected as the "best".

However this is about to change as bmw, Mercedes and audi prices have sky rocketed in the past two years.

Thanks for this. I had not seen the cars side by side. The CLE53 looks like a heavy facelift of the C63.

Naming it CLE instead of C53 is a scam.
The name doesn't really matter tbh.
Its a weird in-between of the outgoing C-coupe and E-coupe. So that's what they called it.
Also its longer than the C-coupe by a pretty hefty margin too.

M2 have a better interior

Looooool.

M2 interior has never been great, stop smoking. Thats one thing thats guranteed, the benz interior will be much superior

Good point. The size difference is probably very noticeable in real life. I reckon the car is stunning and have amazing presence.

If the CLE uses the same materials as the C-Class it's a low benchmark. If I remember correctly, the 2-Series use the same materials as the 3-Series which is decent for its segment. However the CLE53 loooooks way better than the M2. A big boy Merc.

The front pic, with that matte black color, looks really really good.

What does American cars have to do with anything? Kings of value? You have value and best seriously confused. They aren’t nearly the same thing. Value is when you get a comparable or better product for the same money or less. German cars have never been about that.

In Europe the likes of Lexus, Volvo and maybe Jaguar have been the "good value" luxury products.
German cars are always more expensive and always bad value for money with respect to feature set.

However, what you got for the money was better interior, drivetrain and general engineering.

The question buyers ask themselves is how much is the extra offered by the Germans, worth to them. Are they willing to pay the extra.

Where is this?

Here in the UK, BMW, Audi and BMW left everyone for dust years ago. At least before covid, you could finance a car from any of those three brand new discounted at 10-20% for less than a Lexus, Volvo and Jaguar. Discounts have returned in Q3 2023.

Skoda, Alfa Romeo, Toyota, Nissan and Peugeot have been value for money if you buy base versions. As soon as you add a 2.0L engine, premium trim and a nice to have like AWD, the finance payment are on the level of a premium German car but with an atrocious residual value.

Jaguar have only in the past 24 months dropped the price of the XE after realising that they are overpriced. You can walk into a German dealer and buy an equivalent German car for the same money or less but it's way superior. Volvo are discontinuing their saloons and estates here because they are not competitive enough to generate high demand.

Audi, BMW and Mercedes sell cars so competitively here that even working class people can afford one. Lots and lots of credit. lol :ROFLMAO:

Just pay a £499 deposit and commit to £499 per month, the sales person will squeeze you into a finance agreement.

When I travel to Italy or Portugal I'm always surprised by sight of far fewer German cars.

The few times that "economy" brands have been good value is if I come across a dirt cheap time limited lease.

And yet, there are millions of Qashqais on the road in the UK.

You are right, that top-spec "value" products are almost as expensive as base-spec German cars these days. Hasn't always been the case though.

Different markets. Value is represented by Acura, Lexus, Genesis, and Infiniti. Those are the value alternatives to the Germans.

M

Unfortunately all of these brands are slowly dying in the US too…. although I really want Genesis to succeed. They have done amazing job
Lexus, Acura and Genesis are clearly not “dying” in the USA. Not sure where you’re getting that from. Lexus is ahead of everyone in YTD sales except BMW.
