CLE [Official] Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupé (C236)

The Mercedes-Benz CLE is a grand tourer which consists of the C236 coupe and the A236 cabriolet that were both launched in 2023 and replaced both the C-Class and E-Class coupes.
For the official press release news, see World Premiere: The New Mercedes-Benz CLE
What's the price? Do you know? I think it will be decisive to know if it is an expensive C or a cheap E, and relate it to the size and strategy proposed, which in the end is more than anything defined by the price

I'll go and see it but its not for me. I like the more sleek window lines of the E coupe and of course S coupe.
The best thing about it though is the I6 engine and the AMG version of that must be great.
Ah, the S class coupé (sigh), a beauty to behold, André.
I’d appreciate, if you take some pictures to share with us, when you go see it.

Prices are not yet known @dalab. My guess is, that it starts at € 55.000-60.000.

I really wanted it to be a desirable Mercedes for me, an icon like the CLK was or like the last S Class coupe was (in medium size), but it doesn't seem to be either one or the other, I'll wait and see IRL it deserves the benefit of doubt, that price seems not unreasonable

Agreed. I really wanted it to be more desirable. Were it sufficiently special with an E interior I would have considered it to replace my M4. This doesn't cut it. I have no doubt my BMW interior feels far more premium in finish and build than this along with a sublime straight 6.

I guess I have no choice but to wait until I can afford a V8 AMG GT or SL. Maybe in 2025.

It's going to be a no for me, or at least until I see it. Major disappointment. I saw an E53 Coupe today, I much prefer that.

I like the front of the car up to the B-pillars, but the rear is a disappointment. I don't like the GLC style rear lights, they look cheap with only one curved LED bar and no chrome strip separating the left and right taillight. I think the indicators and reverse lights don't look like LED's. The cabrio looks really odd with this rear end. Definitely not Mercedes best moment when it comes to coupe designs.

CLE wheelbase is 25 mm longer than the C coupé and 8 mm shorter than that of the E coupé. Therefore CLE is 50 mm wider than the C coupé. CLE front overhang is 98 mm longer than C and 38 mm longer than E. Rear overhang is 41 mm longer than C and 15 mm shorter than E.
I think you’ve got to see in real life to get a feel of the the proportions.

Ah ok. BMW can burn in hell for the 5er, but this CLE with the exact same elongated overhang has to be seen in person.
LOL. 10 CM extra overhang compared to its donor! Truly love this forum's double standards.

Mercedes is absolutely incapable of a proper medium sized coupe. They've been going downhill ever since the CLK. But at least this CLE looks better than the car it's replacing, which is worse in all ways.

Do you really not understand that measurements don’t tell the story? You think the same length overhang affects every car the same way? I mean honestly.

This. Design isn't defined by singular sections of design. They have to be relative to the rest of the car.

edit: FWIW, the CLE's front overhang is 888mm which is comparable to the G30 5er being 882mm. The G60 5er is 945mm.

I think most of the proportions of the CLE look fine.

I'm even willing to put up with the CLA-inspired front end. The copy pasted GLC Coupe rear is where I draw the line, and that weirdly sloped ass. But the rest looks good.

Major disappointment and a missed opportunity as many have stated here. It has rental car, econobox themes that look so cheap and underwhelming. This design theme keels towards the C-Class too much.

It would have looked better, and more convincing with new E-Class design elements IMO.
Maby something close to this render.

With all the coupes canceled from the MB lineup, the designers should have gone out of their way to create a design a bit more convincing and special.

Agreed. This was definitely conceived as a c coupe and marketed as a CLE.

I agree with what you’re saying, but that render looks like an aborted project.

I think you don't quite got what I was trying to say, so that's on me. But I was trying to point out that that overhangs have grown majorly as per Mick's measurements. Compared to both the E coupe and C coupe.
I wasn't comparing them to the 5er, but saying they have grown just like the 5er. And where all the MB fanboys like you non stop bitch about the 5er and don't mind the CLE's added mess, I call double standards.

And yeah added overhang on a car affect them all in the same way in a certain sense; they all look WORSE than their predecessor when there's more overhang than before.

Anyways, this likely was my last post here. The CLE will go down as a sidetone as best, and I am not going to waste my time on it any further.
In two months conversation among fans will dry up, and in a year people have forgotten it ever existed. A lazy effort in a world quickly turning away from both ICE and coupe models. A true AMG non hybrid would have made this car worth existing, but alas.....

The added overhang in the CLE is barely noticeable compared to the E and C-Coupes The added length in the shark nose design might be there to accommodate the inline 6 crash zone area. The designers actually did a good job of hiding it on profile view in comparison to the body ratio. I pulled up these images for a general comparison. I think the impression will likely be the same IRL.
(I wish I could say the same for the new 5er )

If the coupe disappointed, the convertible does not exist, nor has it been talked about, Mercedes breaks its own records of "forgettability" with each new model it presents, it does not seem that two days ago a totally new CLE Convertible was also presented!

Agreed, I would still take the E53 coupe or cabriolet over this.

Edit : of course, maybe at the right price this would be okay.

BMW has already broken the records you mentioned. G70, G60, 3.0 CSL...
