Range Rover [Official] Gen 5 Range Rover

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line has been in production since it was launched in 1970 by British Leyland. Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
Best SUV on the planet?

Seems Belgravia Green is a popular choice.
But there is something about Black…

What did you think of it?
It photographs compactly. But when you see it it’s actually huge,Titanic huge.

Not a fan. I’ve seen two in white and they are OK. Honestly, if I was in the market I’d get any Bentayga over this. These probably hold value better but experience a Bentley after hopping in one of these. No contest. Bentayga by a mile!

Soooooooo much nicer than whole Mercedes/BMW/Audi crap design line up. In and out the them isimple, well proportioned, not overdone.
Also, nice to see the interior doesn't over uses screens, i.e: an extra screen for the passenger, or even worse, the vulgar Mercedes hyper screen.

Why is so difficult for the german premium manufacturers to design something that doesn't look like a jelly mold (Mercedes) or a hard drugs party (BMW)?

Yupp. The X7 and GLS look messy inside and out compared to the new Range which is simple and stunning but not minimalist and boring.

The only thing Germany has in the way of presentation or uniqueness in the way of the Range Rover is the G. All the rest are just merely nice.

except even the half-ar$ed GLS walks over the 'stunning, epic... New Range Rover' - The Best Car in the World Evah!:

Let's be honest, the GLS is not the Best or Nothing, just a hopped up bloated SUV, merely competent, hitting all the Daimler beancounters' metrics, but it's plenty to make this 'landmark' product, the latest Range Rover, look what it is - hype over substance - design over reality. Take the stopping distance for example - a tad more important to the wellbeing of the more likely just occupants - paid VIPs advertising the product, livery service for hotels, 'royalty', etc - than wading depth - how many airhead, avaricious muppets, 'VIPs'/'royalty', take their not-owned cars through 3 feet of mud in Eastnor, the African jungle, or the local flooded quarry?:

'Remarkably, the GLS came to a stop from 60 mph in just 105 feet in our emergency braking test, an impressively short distance for a vehicle of its size.

By contrast, the Range Rover SE feels even more plush on the road, with an exceptionally smooth and comfortable ride. The downside is more easygoing steering and more swaying body movement around turns that makes the Range Rover feel top-heavy. It may cause you to approach a corner with caution compared with the Mercedes. The Range Rover also needs more distance to come to a complete stop; our test vehicle hauled up from 60 mph in 123 feet.'

- 18 feet might not sound much, just over the length of an average US car, but given today's tyre tech, and braking systems, 40 metres for the pro-rataed 100 to 0 km/h is actually appalling, given ~$35k econoboxes and compact SUVs/crossovers, weighing up to 2 tons, can manage ~35 metres routinely.

Once again, hype over the cold light of day facts - JLR(2008 onward)'s always downfall - when the lies hit the road, and come back singed and burnt, like the I-Pace's notorious, HM Govt fully approved, rubber stamped, 300 miles range - which some clowns actually fell for.

Braking matters, for this up to $200k or more 'landmark' product. Not f'ing wading depth. Wow, it's got rubber seals, and a higher air intake.

JLR can't engineer/develop a car. They CAN design a bauble - meant not to be driven, just plonked, likely throwing faults, dead,

They even had Bosch Engineering , in Abstatt, Germany, do it for them - the near total development of the new Range Rover(and its same car new RRSport). And THIS is the result. Imagine how bad it would have been if the clowns at Gaydon - PR, Diversity etc 'engineers', with their multi degrees, MBAs, Eng Docs etc - had actually down the spannering - laptoping. Doesn't bear thinking. It would have been Tesla--- - Full Self-Suiciding. Tired of Life? Buy a Range Rover, End it All.

Speaking of engineering, or the lack of common sense and progress within JLR: could you tell us about the ridiculous and outdated golf shoe test?

I've heard from an upset, younger engineer that JLR spends roughly €100 per car (which he heavily advocated to cut) to have the part where you put the golf shoes not have any marks no matter how or what shoes you push in.

Saw one yesterday, studied more closely. Live near Solihull plant, so the production sampled test cars are now being driven about - at high speed, by the lunatic, couldn't give a F, JLR drivers, as they know Plod wouldn't dare stop them - JLR being the borough's by far largest - only - employer, and Plod of course, the local WM chief constable, having signed off, or done with, the now infamous 'Jaguar Engine Heist'. The vermin drive around at high speed on narrow country lanes with their behemoth, 2.2 metre wide mobile chest freezers with total impunity.

The point is, especially in white, glaring white, for such a large, slab-sided car in strong sunshine, that having looked at it properly, never mind the slab sides, the rear is a disaster, pronounced even more by the white/red tail lights contrast. Those narrow, tall, tail lights, make it look like the car is 'sucking in', like sucked in cheeks, like that mask of horror movies, the Freddie creature? - don't know - don't watch, know 'entertainment'.

It looks odd, anyway. Such a large vehicle, with such narrow, tall tail lights, contrasted with a light colour, does not give the no doubt intended effect by the McGovern midget of the tapered, sleek end of an Italian speedboat, a Riva or whatever, but like a chest freezer zooming past that's lost its teeth, its cheeks hollow.

By contrast, on the same roads, localities, around Solihull's landmark employer, I see Taycans almost like Allegros and Marinas back in the 70s/80s - they're everywhere. Almost don't notice them now - so common.

And that's JLR's problem, regardless of 3' wading, or inability to stop like a $30k econobox - people with money and an accountant and a business in the UK are buying EV, high-end EV, like Fat E-trons, EQCs - see lots of them now - and Taycans of course, and now more i4 M50s, iXs, etc.

The white Range Rover I saw yesterday was probably off to SoCal, to be given to some 'influencer' - i.e. FOC - paid by the UK taxpayer - JLR is kept affloat-ish, by 'research' monies channelled through the dodgy as F outfit Warwick Manufacturing Group, to JLR, thence to Tata Motors/Tata.

The whole thing sums up Collapsed-Corrupt- UK2022 - a fraud on stilts, all hype, next to no substance, run by clowns and liars, and law and order gone AWOL, or on the payroll.

not a clue. I would think it more important, especially those who still hold a candle for JLR, that JLR has abdicated from engineering - the hard, real bit - iterative development - by handing it over, outsourcing it, lock, stock, and barrel, to Bosch. We know why they did it - JLR can't do cars, just design. Imagine how poor this car would have been if it had been like the last inhouse Range Rover - the appalling P38A. The L322, a great car, was done by BMW, at the FIZ, not Gaydon, and then consistently updated and improved upon by Ford. 'L405' - 'all-new' - was decent, BECAUSE, it used the floorpan, the engineering, of the 2003 XJ, X350, which of course was a Ford/Ford PAG(Dearborn, Merkenich, Germany, bit of Dunton, bit of Whitley) product.

Speth knew JLR couldn't do a car, having of course been at BMW, and what BMW engineers and managers thought in private of The English Patient - including Land Rover, not just Rover Carss, and its joke 1994 P38 Range Rover.

The first thing he did when he got to JLR in 2011/12 was to give Magna Steyr the contract for a black box for Jaguar's 4WD. He then of course followed this up by doing the same with the I-Pace - mainly developed by them, as the car was just a squashed, bodged F-Pace.

Speth obviously too made the decision to outsource engineering, to Bosch Engineering, effectively shutting down JLR Engineering. What do they do in Gaydon? Is that why so many of them work form home? Engineers working from home - yeah right.

It looks good in darker and grey colours though.
