WOW I thought Ferrari had this under control or even eliminated now.

M

Even of their F1 cars had an incident of external combustion when Massa's car caught fire during this year's first testing days in Valencia two weeks ago.

Maybe they should send a team of fire fighters with every car they sell like the team of engineers that follow the press cars.

LOL. They might as well be like google and attach the the title of "Beta" to all of their cars. :D

^ That's a lousy name mate ;) How can you use a French word for the name of an Italian car. No, needs vooma, needs passione. How about:

Ferrari 458 Italia Spontaneo Combustione.

It's a sizzling new limited edition of course, that's said to be really hot - smoking in fact - for those Ferrari owners who want their cars to burn more than just a hole in their pockets. Searing performance will lead to blistering quickly paintwork and heated seats will come as standard. The car will come with its own unique colour scheme: Scalding Scarlet. I hear the whole thing's on fire.

ROBB REPORT EDITORS NAME FERRARI 458 ITALIA 2011 CAR OF THE YEAR :eusa_liar
View attachment aadbfaf1f675de214c30a4472df608d0.jpg

MALIBU, CA (February 15, 2011) Praised as a "shocking demonstration of just how much improvement can be brought to an already near-perfect sports car," the Ferrari 458 Italia has been selected by the Robb Report (Robb Report - The Global Luxury Source) editors and a panel of guest judges as the luxury lifestyle authority's 2011 Car of the Year.

Revealed in Robb Report's March issue, which hits newsstands on February 22, the award is presented to an automobile, formally introduced in the previous year, whose technical designs, styling, and performance position it as the world's preeminent sports or luxury vehicle.

In earning Robb Report's "2011 Car of the Year" honor, the Ferrari 458 Italia outdistanced 13 luxury and sports cars. The stunning Italian sports car topped (in order of finish) the Audi R8 V10 Spyder, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG, Bentley Mulsanne, Maserati GranTurismo Convertible, Audi A8L, Aston Martin Rapide, BMW Alpina B7, Rolls-Royce Ghost, Jaguar XJ Supersport, Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, and Lotus Evora.

The selections resulted from extensive test-driving in California's Napa Valley by a panel of experts that included Robb Report editor in chief Brett Anderson, automotive consultant Robert Ross, and correspondents Paul Dean and Paul Meyers. These journalists were joined by more than 50 guest judges, including executives and Robb Report readers.

Outdistancing that highly competitive field of sports and luxury entrants, the Ferrari 458 Italia was lauded for its superb design, interior appointments, and, in keeping with Ferrari legend, exceptional performance.

"Faster, quicker- and smoother-shifting, and with lighter steering than its predecessor, the most powerful Ferrari V-8 ever does its magic without forced induction and while revving to a heady 9,000 rpm with a scorching musical note that makes paddle-shifting at redline an addiction," explained Mr. Ross.

"For our judges, editors, writers, and anyone who just happened to be wandering by, the Fly Yellow 458 Italia was adoration at first glimpse," echoed Mr. Dean. "This was before they heard the clattering bellow of 562 hp spitting from the triple-tip exhaust; before they touched, felt, and snuggled into the glovelike leather and drove this masterpiece; before they concluded that all things magnificent from Italian culture, from Michelangelo's Pietà to a 1945 Brunello di Montalcino, bow before a Ferrari."

Robb Report's "Car of the Year" announcement coincides with this Thursday's Ferrari collector and investor live video chat, which will take place at 9 pm EST. Offering their perspectives on collecting trends and valuations will be acclaimed enthusiast and collector Bruce Meyer; world-renowned restorer and concours judge Gary Bobileff, of Bobileff Motorcar Company; and David Gooding, president and founder of leading collector car auction house Gooding & Company. Chat registration is accessible at Live Ferrari Collector & Investor Webcast | Robb Report.

World Debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2011:

NOVITEC ROSSO Refines the Ferrari 458 Italia

609 hp / 448 kW, more than 330 km/h and a Sporty Designer Suit

NOVITEC ROSSO now also refines the new Ferrari 458 Italia. At the Geneva Motor Show 2011 the extensive program for the mid-engine sports car will celebrate its world debut. The high-performance program includes engine tuning that increases power output to 609 hp / 448 kW, propelling the two-seater car to a top speed in excess of 330 km/h. The NOVITEC ROSSO high-performance exhaust system, made from the same INCONEL material also used in Formula 1 racing, optimizes both power yield and exhaust note while weighing in at 21 kilograms less than the production exhaust. The NOVITEC ROSSO aerodynamic-enhancement kit was developed in the wind tunnel and is manufactured from carbon fibers. It also contributes to the lightweight-design concept of the NOVITEC ROSSO conversion. A custom-tailored tire/wheel combination with diameters of 21 and 22 inches, a modified suspension with front lift system and exclusive interior options round out the upgrade for the Italian sports car.

The NOVITEC ROSSO specialists unleash an additional 39 hp / 28.7 kW of power from the 4.5-liter V8. A new carbon-fiber airbox with modified air routing is installed on the intake side. The NOVITEC ROSSO high-performance exhaust system was developed to improve exhaust-gas flow. The exhaust system consists of two high-performance manifolds, sport catalysts and a rear muffler with a control flap, whose sound can be adjusted by the Manettino button on the steering wheel.

The exhaust system features three tailpipes with a diameter of 90 millimeters and optimizes power yield while producing a more sporty exhaust note. But that’s not all: It is manufactured from INCONEL, the same material used on Formula 1 race cars, making the NOVITEC ROSSO exhaust especially heat resistant and more importantly extremely light: Compared to the production exhaust it represents a weight saving of 21 kilograms.

The engine conversion also includes newly programmed engine electronics with newly calibrated mapping for ignition and injection.

After the conversion the engine of the 458 Italia produces 609 hp / 448 kW at 9,100 rpm. Simultaneously peak torque grows from 540 Nm to 569 Nm at 5,400 rpm. The engine also responds even faster to throttle commands and the slightly higher redline speed results in even better continuity during upshifts. Powered by this engine the two-seater with NOVITEC ROSSO engine tuning reaches a top speed in excess of 330 km/h.

At these speeds favorable aerodynamic properties are essential. The NOVITEC ROSSO body components were fine-tuned in the wind tunnel of the University of Stuttgart. The components are made from especially light high-strength carbon fibers and give the car an unabashed racing look while reducing its weight.

The NOVITEC ROSSO front spoiler is attached to the production bumper and lends the car a more striking face. In combination with the flaps to the right and left of the central air inlet its sophisticated shape minimizes lift on the front axle, which benefits directional stability at high speeds. Wings and the fender-mounted ventilation louvers now made from carbon fibers add further sporty emphasis to the front of the car. Carbon-fiber mirror housings add the final touch.

Strikingly styled NOVITEC ROSSO rocker panels create optimal airflow between front and rear wheel wells. To reduce lift on the rear axle for an optimal aerodynamic balance NOVITEC ROSSO upgrades the 458 Italia with a rear spoiler and a carbon-fiber diffuser. The racing look is rounded out with additional carbon-fiber applications such as ventilation louvers or the fog lamp surround.

Custom-tailored versions of the three-piece NOVITEC ROSSO NF3 wheels were developed to make perfect use of the available space in the wheel wells. Choosing a staggered combination of size 9Jx21 wheels in front and size 12Jx22 on the rear axle further emphasizes the wedge shape of the two-seater car. Technology partner Pirelli supplies PZero high-performance tires custom-tailored for this car. On the front axle the tires are mounted in size 255/30 ZR 21. In the rear tires in size 335/25 ZR 22 provide optimal traction.

The NOVITEC ROSSO sport springs are precision-matched to these ultra-low-profile tires. The springs lower the ride height of the Ferrari by some 35 millimeters. At the same time the NOVITEC ROSSO specialists also developed a particular feature that further improves the everyday utility of the 458 Italia. The hydraulic NOVITEC ROSSO front lift system can raise the front of the car at the push of a button in the cockpit by some 40 millimeters, eliminating problems posed by speed bumps or parking garage ramps. At a second push of the button or automatically upon reaching a speed of 80 km/h the front reverts to its original position.

NOVITEC ROSSO fully caters to customer requests with perfectly crafted leather and Alcantara interiors. Customers can choose from an endless number of colors and a multitude of upholstery designs meticulously sewn to perfection. The racing theme of the NOVITEC ROSSO body kit is continued in the interior with a center console, scuff plates and longer shift paddles on the steering wheel, all made from carbon fibers.

I actually think its HOT..minus the smoked rear lights..

Some new real world comparisons featuring 458 Italia :

458 vs GT-R (600hp)

458 vs S65 AMG

458 vs ESS VT625 M3

Again, quite a good performance by stock customer 458s. That GT-R should be good for 100-200km/h in about 7s (or even slightly under) and 458 wins. S65 AMG is also good in roll on drag races (100-200km/h in 9s and very good performance above 200) but against 458 there is no contest. The 458 loses against a supercharged M3 but that car apparently does 100-200km/h in 5,6s and was running on 95 US octane fuel while the 458 on 91 octane only. The following 50-335km/h run by 458 is also pretty quick.
