What I said was got from a shop manager in my local RR dealer when Phantom VIII was launched in my city by the end of last year.He told me the platform of Phantom VIII and Bmw G11 were basically identical ,only some materials were different.all the parts are produced in the same factory in Germany.
Bmw is German's Toyota, which is very good at cost controllin...

Funny you're the only one saying this. But then again, you have inside info, which makes you special.

Sounds totes legit to me! Some guy in a forum said some guy at a dealer in China told him they're identical.... so I'm gonna believe that instead of published reports on development, photographs and drawings.

edit: Just for super clarity, though I am of course being sarcastic, I'm not denying that there's shared major components between the Phantom and some CLAR based Bimmers, or that there is therefore inevitably sourcing of some/many/most of the important bits of Rolls-Royce from existing BMW plants and suppliers in Germany or the UK. I am however suggesting that that does not validate the claim they ride on identical platforms.

I've only checked one source which is a range brochure from Mercedes but I think some of those weights might be mixed up? I have the weight numbers for the 400 and 500 the other way around?

Truthfully, the car needed another 20 cm or so in length to actually make it spacious in the rear, but that would make it look ridiculous from the outside. A smaller Van probably has more room inside.

Enter the Honda Odessy. Its one of only two three row cars that I've sat in for over an hour in the third seat. Back there are cupholders, air vents etc and I can exceptionally comfortable at my height of 180cm/5'11. The advantage it has over the X7 is that the transversely mounted engine eats less room than a transversely mounted one.

Both have similar lengths: 5,162 mm for the Honda vs 5,151 mm for the BMW

Why am I mentioning this van in an thread about SUVs? It's arguably one of the most incredible three row cars money can buy. Its features, practicality and sheer hauling capability are near unrivalled. It can also be specced with captain chairs that slide backwards but also side ways.

It's unfortunately that it's not sold in Europe. A friend in Florida who has it also owns a 2018 Range Rover Vogue but for trips to the beach with four adults and three kids and lots of gear, the Odyssey is near unrivalled. It's also great for going out drinking as 6 adults with a designated driver. :D

There is even a built in vacuum cleaner in the boot!

I'm a Chrysler Pacifica person myself, but they are definitely both minivan class leaders. Only problem with minivans (as we call them here) are not cool and therefore can't begin to be compared with the X7. They're handicapped right from the start. Mercedes tried to bring luxury to this segment with the ugly R-class but we see how that went. :)

I can’t deal with the hideous snout of this car. But the interior is fantastic.

I hate myself for liking suxh a behemoth of vehicle, but, dammit, I do. I prefer the exterior details of this over the X5.

Speaking of Alpina, how do they go about Alpina-fying a car that's built in South Carolina? Do they complete the car entirely at production line, ship it to Germany, have Alpina then fetter with it, and then ship it out again?

And I live next door to a super model but this doesn't mean that I have some private relations with her.

So you say you two don't share parts, right?

I like this pic as it show that they really tried to bring some bling even to 3rd row passengers. Nevertheless, I agree with @Centurion that a straight forward vans fulfill certain core utility values better than any SUV can. The Odyssey is a particularly good example, I also really like it and some of its functional details.

I like the massive pillars, frames, and panels, here. For what it is, it is really nice.

Exterior-wise, I think the sculpturing on the sides (concave front doors, convex rear door, rear wheel arch) is the best aspect. Particularly the additional character line that begins shortly behind the front door and then converges with the upper character line to shape the rear fender.

I have heard the so called aluminum spaceframe of new RR family is basically identical to CLAR of Bmw but without Carbon Core technology.Bmw didn't want to invest big moneys on RR because of group profits,RR still share many Bmw parts including platform with some minor change.

Your sources are wrong
