X1 Official BMW X1 Thread

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.
Thanks for the pics m-power. I've seen the brown X1 irl, and it looks as good as those pics! Very nice little crossover.

Looks absolutely ugly imo. Over-designed, busy, shapeless, weird proportions, weak lines everywhere, horrid front, tiny-looking wheels lost in those wheel-archs... A mess.

Not liking it in those pictures. Have seen it in real life and it looks great, but these pictures just don't convey the entirity of the design as seeing it in person does...

Hey, this isn't the E-coupé/cabrio thread!

Yes, it is surely one of BMW's best. This should bring in huge numbers for BMW. It has a flagship face on an entry level body. Perfect combination that ends up awarding the driver in the end.

If you ask me it looks like a mess.

Profile view makes it look way too top heavy. The front from certain angles just looks like a collection of weird angles big panel gaps and in coherence.

The wheel wells are huge, too much plastic on the rear bumper and just an overall way too busy design.

Like the GLK which sits one size up the X1 is a creativity-limiting two-box SUV with styling that polarises opinion. Some like it, some don't.

I think it's quite an attractive design for a wagon-esque SUV - there are plenty more examples of how horridly these things can really turn out. I guess I have a certain measure of tolerance for SUV-unattractiveness. ;)

Me and my father is going to see the car on Thursday VIP, including 5er GT and X5M. Hopefully we can fix a testdrive with X1 soon.

Ok, so Im back from the 'show'. X1 doenst have a elegant shape but its a SUV so I cant ask for it. But its cool car with tough attitude. The interior share a lots of parts from 1-series. My father is seriously considering a X1 when its time to buy a new car.

5er GT - lol the car is really ugly IRL. Period!

It was the X1 that got most of the attention from the guests. I think its going to be a huge sale hit for BMW.

That's expected - since it's a mass-market car. 5er Gt on the other hand is a niche product targeting very specific customers - BMW are heavily promoting the car on events BMW is present as a sponsor: sports events, fashion events, art exhibitions, award ceremonies, media events, cultural events, professional conferences & events (medical, architectural, economic etc forums) - where a certain clientèle & potential fleet buyers are present. 5er GT is not a "common people" car ... just like X6 isn't. :t-cheers:

While X1 is very much appealing to (premium) masses.

And while both X6 and 5er GT are a strange type of car, a new conception, the X6 is very appealing as an SUV, and the GT5 is just rare, I saw one on Tuesday getting back home and it´s just strange, nor one thing nor the other one.

It's easy to understand why. BMW are capitalising on the never ending public craving for social status. The X1 is a cottage disguised as a mansion and project success and prosperity thanks to it's size. A German branded SUV is high up on the wish-list for many materialist and BMW have transponded the authority of the X5 into a package affordable for many consumers who desire the X5 but cannot afford one. Most clever is the X1 has been designed to look premium lustrous compared with X3 and 1-Series which carry rather dreaded or dumped-down BMW design.

You can call it imitation luxury but for the first time from one of the leading car manufacturers themselves.

You cannot call it imitation luxury. It IS luxury.
For the rest, well said Luw!
