5 Series (F10/F11/F07/F18) [Official] BMW F10 5 Series

The BMW F10/F11/F07/F18 is the sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series, manufactured for model years 2010–2017. The body styles of the range are: 4-door sedan/saloon (F10), 5-door estate/wagon (F11, marketed as "Touring"), 5-door fastback (F07, marketed as "Gran Turismo"), and 4-door long wheelbase sedan (F18, sold only in China and the Middle East).
I'd actually say that the 7er is more imposing and the 5er is more elegant.

And yes, that F10 is certainly the best looking car in its class again, though I must say that with familiarity the W212 is running it mighty close for me these days. Reason being: the 5er does little to hide its considerable size whereas the E-Klasse manages to look smaller than it really is. Saw a "steel silver" (or whatever the supposed colour in MB's catalogue is called) E63 AMG today and, yes, it is the full fat AMG model, I concede, but that still doesn't change the fact that it looked magnificently beautiful with a capital MB.

Jag XF; starting to look a tad amorphous in non-XFR guise and those raisey-eyebrowsey "who just stuck their thumb up my bum?" headlights look as bad as ever.

5er for me please

Interior-wise, flip back and forth between the 5er and 7er cockpit pics. They are different colours, but there is very little that sets them apart besides slightly different proportions. The next 7er cabin has to be an unbelievable work of art to allow it to be completely unique and upmarket.

LOL Big mistake from Ian Callum from the start, those headlights. Repeating myself from another thread: XF's design is very Aston'ish and looks sleek, sexy and beautiful IMO (apart from the front) now the upcoming FL could make a huge difference.

There goes HOH two favorite Bimmers!

The biggest difference between the two in that the F10 is the nicest 5er ever, and the F01 is not the nicest 7er, as the E38 stil holds its crown.

Hmm...I actually like this one better than any of the previous 7 series.

Well, perfect, I respect your opinion. I must say that I´m not objetive with the E38, I grew up seeing it in front of my house, and it´s just the most beloved bimmer, eons away of anything else:

I will always say THIS is the vision of BMW of the upper market sedan, the E65 and the F01, just follow what Mercedes did with the W140, a tank. To me, a big bimmer has to be slimm, menacing, and the E38 was, as the E32 before. They were cars completly different to what BMW does now with the 7er.

WOW, never realized that the 5er is my much smaller, en eye-opener for me. Designwise I don't have any idea which one I prefer. IMO the nicest 7er ever is in front of our garage; the e38 740ia, beautiful from every angle :icondrool

For me the 5er interior is more fluid, while the 7er is classier, more upscale and solid so 0-1,
The rear of the 7er is not pretty but it looks very special, a great interplay of light and shadow while the butt of the 5er looks chip and don’t know why but it reminds me of the first generation european mondeo and temp result is 0-2.
In flesh the front of the 5er looks much better that in pictures. Its dynamic a little angry and in the same time elegant. The 7er is clumsy especially in the standard trim and the big front kidneys are not imposing but disproportional. The designers could do a much better work.Oh, if they only put the front of the CS. Final result 1-2.
I sow today the press release from BMW for the retail numbers. Going back to 1995 the german magazine AMS cited the target annual numbers for 5er e39 and 7er e38. They were as follows – 230 000 for the 5er (it was the same for the current MB e-class) and 60 000 for the 7er (again the same for the S-class). It looks like this numbers are still actual and even they are before the arrival of the almighty Chinese market and globalization. So the luxury market hasn’t changed for 15 years.

I love when I come back to these Threads to a plethora of pictures paying homage to the brilliant predecessors. :D

I understand you message, but the 5er hasn´t gone a different route since the begininng. I see the E39, and then the F10, and it has that slim touch I like to see in a bimmer, the proportions are there. You can´t say with any 5er "Hey, there it´s clear BMW followed Mercedes path and changed the way the made the 5er".

With the 7er they changed their view. Switched from a very slim design as the E32/E38 to a true tank as the E65 was. And with the F01, they have refined the tankish appereance of the E65, but not gone back to the style of the previous cars.

^^^ I'm sure they wanted to make the 7er as slim as possible, but 2010 safety regulations are quite a bit different from what they were in the early '90s, plus a lot more interior space is required now, since the E38 interior is roughly as big as the F10 5er...

Very interesting, thanks!!

^thats what i thought..
The interior situation is tragic

Well yeah they resemble eachother a lot.
But that doesn't matter when you have the finest interiors in class period.

But notice how good are the proportions of the CS, a car which was created with a production version in mind. BMW still know how to design a car of that size, it´s just they are more conventional now.

Imagine the CS, with a lil more conventional front end, a less radical rear end, and a side profile with the broken shoulder line. Then, stick the F01 interior. What do you have in mind? Surely something nicer than the F01.

Yes, definitely. The 7er was made with BMW having in mind that the CS would see production too. But with the recession and the CS not making it, we got 'stuck' with the conventional version only.
Next gen, we will either have 1) a regular 7er and a sporty version of it like the CS, or 2) only one 7er, but more slim and dynamic as you describe..
