The new BMW ALPINA B7 will arrive in March at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Following the world debut will be the North American introduction at the New York Auto Show in April.

Like the last-generation ALPINA B7, the new model will likely be powered by a modified version of the BMW 750i sedan’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. The current twin-turbo 4.4-liter engine makes 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque and it’s expected that the B7 engine will be boosted to 600 horsepower and 501 lb-ft of torque.

The 2016 BMW 750i xDrive heaves itself from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds with merely 445 hp, so it’s all but certain the new B7 will knock that number down below 4 seconds.

ALPINA’s new B7 Biturbo will be offered with a short or long wheelbase, and with rear and all-wheel drive available. Externally, the sedan from Buchloe will go through the typical ALPINA design process – a new set of wheels, a slightly redesigned front and rear bumper, a discrete boot lid and a custom exhaust system with two oval tailpipes.

Bespoke leather, wood trim, gauges, color options and an ultra high-end sound system are likely to appear as well.

New BMW 730i now shares MINI’s 2.0L 4-cylinder in Turkey, China

About a month after the first reports about BMW preparing an entry-level, four-cylinder gasoline version for their new 7-Series sedan emerged, the Germans quietly launched their new 730i.
A report from Paultan said that the model appeared on BMW’s consumer website in Turkey, but we also found it in China. While BMW has been quiet about its availability, we suspect that it will eventually be offered in other select markets around the world.

The new 730i’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline mill has an 82mm bore and 94.6mm stroke, which means it’s based on the B48 family of engines found in a number of models in the BMW Group, ranging from the MINI Cooper JCW to the latest BMW 225i and 330i in Europe, as well as the upcoming 740e PHEV – sans the electric motor.

In this application, the four banger delivers 258PS (255hp) between 5,000 and 6,500 rpm, and 400Nm (295 lb-ft) of peak torque from 1,550 to 4,400 rpm, and is paired to a standard 8-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. It accelerates the 730i to 100km/h (62mph) in 6.2 seconds and the long wheelbase 730Li in 6.3 seconds, with both versions topping out at 250km/h (155mph).

Is this the same engine as those found in the 520i and 528i

Still my favorite setup.

Wasn't bad at all. I guess it's because the blizzard was on the weekends and everyone was home. People were actually out, playing and skiing in the streets.

2017 Alpina B7 set for Geneva debut
Work on the new Alpina B7 is well underway and the German company will reportedly introduce the model at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The flagship luxury sedan was teased earlier this month, when Alpina briefly said the B7 is “coming soon.” Now we have unofficial information from our friends at BMW Blog that the vehicle will be ready for a global premiere at the Geneva exhibition in early March.

The report says Alpina will once again use the 4.4-liter V8 engine of the 750i version and will tune it to deliver around 600 horsepower (441 kW) and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque. The outgoing B7 has 540 hp (397 kW) and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm), channeled through an 8-speed automatic gearbox for a 0-60 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) acceleration in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 194 mph (312 km/h). The new B7 will likely be able to perform this sprint in around four seconds.

BMW Blog also claims the 2017 B7 will be offered with either a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive systems in both short and long wheelbase versions. The Buchloe-based (Germany) automaker will apply subtle visual changes, including multi-spoke wheels, slightly redesigned bumpers, and a discrete boot lid spoiler.

Meanwhile, Alpine has reported a strong 2015 with just over 1,600 sales. The year that marked the company’s 50th anniversary was good for the D3 and B3 duo that sold over 500 units together, while 248 examples of the XD3 were delivered.

(n):banghead:

Kept secretly hoping that we'd never see this day....2-liter engine for BMW's flagship? I'll just go an barf my guts out somewhere, brb guys:asshat:
Sad to say, BMW needs this model to sell well in China. Big car small engine works well for Asia

Yes you can have a 730Li and specify it to a 750Li and remove the badge.
Visually no one would notice the difference.

But I'm a bit of a Peeping Tom when it comes to these things and I can always tell the difference by the size of the brake discs and the size of the mufflers in the back.

It's even simpler in Hong Kong as the car's engine capacity is detailed on the registration slip.

Me thinks a 4-cylinder engine in a 7-series is really a bridge too far.

Mercedes has been selling a 4 pot in the S class for some time now right?

I don't see the problem, when the 4 pots have V8 power of 15-20 years ago...
Nice and light, nimble and economical.

A car with an I4, I6, V8 and V12. All available in one model, and probably all with or without xDrive. And of course numerous diesel engines with 1, 2 or 3 turbos, and hybrid models.......eat your heart out Alfa, that's just the 7er.

But that was the previous generation S Class and it was a S250D diesel, though it won the Green Car of the Year Award.

Size = Power ?

= Old school

= 'Murica

Sorry, don't mean to racist :D but seriously, you don't always need big power and a big engine from your big saloon. Cars like the 730i mean that you can get all the luxury benefits, space and comfort of a large, spacious luxury saloon, without paying massive taxes for performance characteristics you may never use.

... it's market specific. Just be thankful if you don't live in a country with 144% tax on >2.0litre cars.

A S500 attracts a >100% first registration tax in Hong Kong also. But I would never pick a 4-pot 7-Series or S Class because of refinement issues. I live on a hilltop and I just can't imagine a 730i can make it up the hill without putting the pedal to the metal.
