The BMW G11 is the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series, produced from 2015 to 2022. Model codes: G11 (short-wheelbase version), and G12 (long-wheelbase version) luxury saloons, collectively referred to as the G11. Production: July 2015–2022. Model years: 2016–2022.

Given the time frame of the photos and the M Sport and the DPE being put together. I estimate around 200 people have probably sat in that drivers seat.
 
True. Demo / show cars suffer from that problem A LOT. The frequency of getting in & out, setting the seat, moving on a seat (to reach / check this and that) is extremely high.

Not to mention, that is probably an early production model?

Yes its an American market model. The bigger clue is that although it is an Li it just says 750i as the US will not be offered the SWB, which I believe to be that sales where always in the LWB's favour.

I understand why BMW isn't offering the SWB in the American market, but why wouldn't you want to include the Li naming/badging on the LWB cars? Wouldn't that add to the perceived value/prestige of the car? ... or would that hurt its sporty image?

I do not know it was requested by BMW NA. Is there a stigma against extended limousines etc, tax issues?
 
...and now everyone on this forum is going to have an incredibly difficult time comparing a US-spec 750i with that of a non-US spec 750i since one will be LWB and the other SWB. Pricing differences, acceleration times, lap times, trim options.... oh dear.... it's going to be chaos here!

I wouldn't think there is a stigma if the majority of 7er sales have been for the LWB variant. I don't think there are any specific tax issues either (though I have never been in the position of buying a car in this class).

It just seems strange that they wouldn't want to point out that as a buyer of the new 7 series, you're getting the Li version as standard.
 
Plus it would leave room for them to offer the SWB version later (with less confusion), if they just put the Li on the LWB model now. Dumb more IMO. You know at some point to get more sales toward the end of the car life they will bring over the SWB version.

G11 grew on me so much it probably best looking 7er with e38 to me. Just so sleek and sharp. Of course properly specified.

Only 30% of the 7 Series sold in the US were short wheelbase

Because everyone is moving towards a simpler naming convention, that's the official reason.
 
I have a suspicion the g11/12 7er will be to the competition what the e39 5er was in its day. It would be much harder to pull off though because everyone else is raising their game so much. Mercedes were sleeping in the late 90's and early 00's with quality too.
However I think the carbon core has given this car an edge. Perhaps Audi can get close with the next A8. I seriously cannot wait to see the road and group tests.

A question for Scott27: Can the metalwork in the cabin be given different finishes? The aluminium seems quite bright. Can it come in a darker grey. Bronze could be tasty too with the right combo. I suppose were talking about some sort of annodizing finish where a dye can be incorporated.
