Of course, they have to try and do something to save that hideous thing. :D

The best thing BMW can do to save it is make the 5GT go away. Not only will they save the 5GT, they'll save us from having to look at it.

What exactly are you not getting? The M Sport version was announced last year, and those photos are taken from this review.

BMW 530d GT M-Sport review - Autocar.co.uk

It's existence. I'm on here almost every weekday and I can't recall ever reading (let alone seeing photos) of the 5 GT M-Package. But thank you for clarifying things. :usa7uh:

It looks a bit better, especially in the rear! I think it would have looked better if the front were more aggressive to match the angry look of its headlights, but who cares.. I ain't buying one.

I always have and still like the 5 GT. IRL it has a distinctive presence, real attractive face and the frame less side glass ads to the occasion. The cabin and the quality of the materials rival that of the F01 7er. It's an X6, just lower more posh and very practical. The 6 GC actually brings into focus that the 5 GT plays a distinctive roll in the BMW lineup, it's unique and basically a standalone model for discerning buyers. And that is IMO;)

It's one thing for people to discuss the merits of a car vs. its competitors without ever bringing to question what its purpose is. But when the actual purpose of a car is called into question; now then, clearly, the credibility of the maker is at stake.

This is not about being anti-BMW. No sir, not me. I can name several vehicles from direct competitors to BMW that have equally questionable purpose.

Sometimes there are just cars that this planet - regardless of the target audience - simply does not need.

seems like this is BMWs tactics these days, fill in every single market possible, even if it's a really small niche market (notice how the X6, X4 and 3 and 5 series GT is questionable in their necessity)

Necessity? Small niches? Who are you to judge? A Pope? Oh, even he said he could not judge ...

Btw, 3er GT + 5er GT + X6 + 6er GC combined sales almost reached 100k mark in 2013. Models nobody cars about? Hardly.
100k is a mark eg. of annual sales of 3er Touring or X5.

So, "unnecessary niche products" obviously do attract customers & contribute to total BMW sales quite significantly. And with 4er GC & X4 coming this figure will be even higher in 2014 and beyond.

What about Z4 roadster? An necessary product? Since its sales are very poor: only 12,900 units in 2013. While every "unnecessary niche product" mentioned above has achieved better sales in 2013 than Z4. Not to mention the high profit margins achieved by "unnecessary niche vehicles" compared to poor profit margins achieved by Z4.

????

With all due respect, sir ... but this is a BS that I hardly believe it came from you. It's not worthy of your otherwise very high level of intelligence. Martin, do you still stick to what you have said above?

Questionable purpose? Judged by whom? By internet forum people? Definitely not by hundreds of thousands of people who have bought vehicles of "questionable purpose".

EnI, this is a discussion forum about cars. Everybody has a right to "judge" and comment on whatever they like, just as BMW are entitled to build what they like and people are allowed to buy what they like.

If somebody posts that they don't like something or they don't see the point of something, then I don't see why you have to constantly say "who are you to judge?" or say that their opinion is "BS", as you did with @martinbo.

I only ask for VALID ARGUMENTS. Insubstantial personal opinions are useless for a serious & great debate.

Please, Betty, contribute ARGUMENTS, not just (in your case usually off-topic) personal opinions. If do you even have any ... Do you? I'm waiting.

haven't everybody said their personal opinion on this car, and without any opinions we wouldn't be able to rate the car

so are you suggesting that we aren't going to rate BMWs?

You can ask for "arguments" all you like, but people don't have to justify anything other than whether they like something or not, and they certainly shouldn't be subject to your abuse and claims of "BS" just because you don't agree with what they say.
