Now, I'm the one looking at this car saying "What possible rational reason would you have to buy this over a sedan or wagon from the same model range? Arresting good looks? Think not. Family-friendly practicality and versatility? Nope.

Not entirely. BMW's purpose here was clearly to produce an MPV but now that they are obsolete thanks to SUV, and therefore played the coupe card by giving the car a slanted roof slicing off some utility in the name of design. It can be seen as the Panamera and R-Class married into one. It is a very risky niche car and it's going to be really interesting to see if consumers will bite. Any product that cannot be explained in one sentence is difficult to sell.
Headlights are a clear indication of the direction for the new 5er.

From a family perspective I can't think off anyone that would buy this car for the sake of their noisy toddler to smudge down those large seats in the rear. I am adamant that the X3, 5er touring and X5 are better purchases. Though I have to say that the boot size of the GT isn't that bad but the rear visibility is somewhat of an issue.
