5 Series (G30/G31/G38) [Official] BMW 5-Series (G30)

The BMW G30/G31/G38 is the seventh generation of the 5 Series. Officially announced in October 2016, sales began in February 2017. Production years: November 2016-2023. Body styles included: 4-door sedan/saloon (G30), 5-door wagon/estate (G31), and 4-door long-wheelbase saloon (G38).
Why does this 5 look so terribly dated to these eyes? The previous model is much prettier.

Couldn't agree more. This 5 is deeply disappointing. Not only has it dated quickly, it was never modern even when launched, and its newer siblings have accelerated the feeling.

Although I have to say, this updated M550i with 530hp is a real sleeper of note. It will be a hell of a bargain second hand.

It's too bad the 5 is so dull looking because the new M550i would be a good daily driver.

Such a bunch of grumpies! :p I saw a G30 M-Sport 530d as I was pulling into the office this morning. Resplendently elegant and refined to this nearly 48 year-old's eyes.
Phew, that would make for such a kiff company car - must work harder! Its cabin too is so much more appealing than that of its teutonic rivals'. Solid, smart, functional and modern - I'd much rather not be sat in any other interior in the class.
The G30 with its separated kidneys (along with G01) represents the end of a long frontal DRG lineage associated with products which I grew up with, became a fan of and ended up buying into. As a businessman and a BMW customer, I'd spend my money on this without giving anything else in the class a second thought.

I have seen a number of G30 in the last 2 weeks and I totally agree that it already is looking dated especially the rear lights, which are very unattractive and not looking like any current BMW. In terms of looks the F10 is more elegant and timeless design and even the pre FL 7-series looks better resolved.

The problem of the G30 is not the competition but the new 3er and the LCI 7er

Not necessarily. The G20 rides much stiffer and lower interior quality throughout. The 7-Series is great but is more expensive and much larger.

Yes the exterior needs a refresh but the no car strikes the same perfect balance between luxury, comfort, handling and price.

I don't see anyone else on the Euro side doing a better job. The G30 rear end was always too similar to the F30 in my view. That whole design philosophy of making the models look the same isn't doing any of the brands any favours I think. The E & C class suffer from the same problem.

I think the G30's rear is too similar to the F10. Even the tial light graphics are barely different.

I do believe BMW will give it a moderate LCI.....headlights and rear lights similar to what they did with E39 just to bring it inline with the newer BMWs.

This, alone.

5er is great compared to the competition, but it's just that BMW's own products make it look dated.
Not only that. I can’t figure this out but the damn pig of a 7er drives so much better than the 5er..

Add to that Klier... and I may get chastised for saying this but the steering on the W213 is leagues better than the G30. I never thought I would see this day but here you go
