I've driven the W213 three times. Twice an E 220 d, and once an E 200. I was impressed with that.

I can tell you already, I think there's a bigger gap between the G11 and G30 than there was between the F01 and F10.

How did this end up?

Just saw my first one....not completely sold on the rear (not bad either), but the stance and proportions are very nice. Best design in class IMO, but I haven't seen the S90 yet (new XC90 is a beauty)

The problem with the 5er, after spending some time with it, is that it is too smooth for a BMW. There is no flair or drama. BMWs back in the day almost had an Italian flair to them, now cars like the new 5 are just smooth and clean to the point of being boringly predictable. The hood is the main offender, just broad and flat with no character. It isn't even the defacto sports sedan anymore either, its more of a luxury sedan now. I would be on board if it brought back the dynamics of the 5-Series model from 2 or 3 generations ago. It's up to the M550i and M5 to deliver the dynamics and the M5 to marry some drama in the styling with the dynamics IMO.

With this i agree 100% and i've said that the moment i saw new 5er for the first time. The hood is boring and dull compared to F10. They should have make it more sharp and aggressive.

But i can live with that... :D

Saw a few this past week. The design is perfectly understated. It doesn't stand out, but it's not supposed to either. I would have a tough time choosing between this, the E and the S90.

Magna Steyr to Produce BMW 5-Series Plug-in Hybrid (530e)

SAILAUF, Germany, June 19, 2017 /CNW/ - BMW's new 530e plug-in hybrid will be produced at Magna's contract manufacturing plant in Graz, Austria, starting in summer 2017. As a contract manufacturing partner for two premium electrified vehicles – the BMW 530e and the previously awarded Jaguar I-PACE – Magna's Graz facility is demonstrating its value proposition to its customers.

This vehicle program further demonstrates the trust BMW places in Magna's expertise in contract manufacturing and electrified products. Production of the new BMW 5 Series marks the successful continuation of the strategic partnership between the BMW Group and Magna that started over 15 years ago. The first BMW produced in Graz, an X3 SUV, rolled off the assembly line in Graz in 2003.

"We are excited to be adding another electrified vehicle architecture to our line-up," said Guenther Apfalter, President Magna Steyr. "Vehicle electrification is a growing trend in the industry and, with our complete vehicle know-how, we are in a great position to help our customers meet the demands."

Magna started the split production on the BMW 5 Series sedan in March of this year and will commence production of the Jaguar I-Pace, their first electric car, in the first quarter of 2018. This year the company celebrates a milestone of more than three million vehicles produced in total for various automakers over the life of the plant in Graz.

I've finally got the chance to drive the G30. I have the keys to this 520d M Sport for seven days. It's heavily optioned up, with stuff such as ventilated seats, HUD, Adaptive LED lights etc.

I would be interested what you have to say about this car as well as the 3x E-class models you have driven. How was their fuel consumption?

Yeah, I will try to have a day posting lots of the fuel data I've collected but haven't posted yet.

The E 220 d was excellent by the way. The G30 520d not as good, and only slightly better than the F10.

BMW G30 5 Series Wins Red Dot Design Award

When the new BMW G30 5 Series was unveiled, a lot of people compared its design to the 7 Series, but as time went by, many were mesmerized by the unique design cues of the 5 Series with many journalists claiming it is the best one yet, probably only rivaled by the E39 generation.

Another confirmation of the good job the people in Munich did came this week, as the BMW G30 5 Series was one of the winners that went home with a Red Dot award in the Cars and Motorcycles category. The car managed to be included in the list of winners this year alongside names like Ferrari 458 MM Speciale, GTC4 Lusso, and LaFerrari Aperta as well as Genesis G80 Sport, Mazda MX-5 RF and Ferrari J50.
