This is the 2017 520d SE EfficientDynamics Model

Europeans love diesels and despite recent turmoils in the automotive industry, the demand for diesel-powered cars remains high. So it comes as no surprise that BMW has decided to retain its 5 Series diesel lineup for the new G30/G31 family, delivering new and highly efficient bangers. One of those is the 2017 BMW 520d SE Efficient Dynamics model which was launched in England last week.

Under the bonnet of the BMW 520d SE EfficientDynamics model lies the most efficient incarnation of the 190hp 2.0 liter four-cylinder diesel unit at 4,000 rpm, which helps the saloon to achieve a fuel consumption of 72.4mpg (3.9 liter per 100 km), meaning CO2 emissions of 102g/km. The torque level stops at 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) starting at 1,750 rpm.

Despite being extremely efficient, the 520d SE is quite fast in the standard sprint. From 0 to 100 km/h (62mph), the G30 520d SE EfficientDynamics model only needs 7.5 seconds.

The engine is matted to the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

Besides the fuel-efficient power units, various other efficiency-enhancing details have been included. For example, there’s the ECO Pro mode with Proactive Driving Assistant, which can be activated with the Drive Performance Control switch. It is interlinked with the Professional Navigation system, enabling it to detect braking situations in advance – such as when entering built-up areas, speed limit zones, corners and filter lanes – and prepare the drive system accordingly. Intelligently controlled energy and climate management accompany these measures, with the Active Air Stream Kidney Grille system in the new BMW 5 Series Saloon allowing even more variable control of the cooling air for the engine, brakes and air conditioning to suit the situation.

@klier Relax bud, nobody is saying the G30 is terrible or anything...For what it is, it's a great car indeed, and with the right spec, the interior is surely a well-built, quality-material tech fest...All we are trying to say is that the lower spec versions of both the G30 and the W213 are vastly inferior than the higher-specced models...Sure, Audi, Lexus and all that also do not offer all of the bells and whistles for their entry models, but the gap in equipment is, perhaps, not as vast (meaning the standard package at least has some of the amenities, whereas the BMW and the Merc practically sell you a mere four seats and a steering wheel)...

I have requested an extensive test drive and I am waiting to hear on availability. I asked for a 520d.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that the designers should have made this the only line on the side of the vehicle. It seems to me the other line which begins at the tail light and runs through the doorhandles makes the car too busy and also make the vehicle look far to much like its predecessor?

The way all those lines interplay is probably my favorite design feature on the 5er.

Indeed, it's all very eye catching in the metal. Terrific interplay (as you so appropriately stated it) between crease and surface.

Does the new 5er have an option like on the E class where it can remotely side park itself without anybody in the car ? A feature that I think is pretty cool!
