5 Series (G30) [Official] BMW 5-Series (G30)

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series. Body styles: (G30) (sedan), (G31) (wagon), (G38) (LWB sedan). Predecessor: 5 Series (F10). Successor: 5 Series (G60). Production: 2016-2023.
Probably not. MB and BMW could consider a low spec taxi-only version and keep the cheap versions away from normal customers. I am aware it's comon business case nowadays, to offer a very basic specced car, and earning the money by offering extra's in Bible thick pricelists.

And this is quite a shame.

There are people who buy entry level 5er or E, just because they want a better chassis than anything else on sale for that money, yet the interior is nowhere near the price point.

A lot of entry level models are bought primarily as company and fleet vehicles. So options are kept at minimal in order to keep costs down. If we look at Polizei models they do not need the excessive luxuries.

Except those cars (not the Polizei or taxis, just low spec ones) are also for sale to normal customers

Exactly. I understand higher level variants should ofcourse offer a higher level of luxury. But some compromises made to basic build and quality in these variants, which are available to the public and are not just for taxis or police, carry through the range regardless of trim level. The lack of door pocket lining, exposed screws and buttons that have a wobbly feel and lack tactile quality are there from the E200 all the way to the e400. The E400 just has nappa leather seats and an artico stitched dashboard to distract you.

And at the end of the day, a base model E or 5 costing tens of thousands of dollars more than similarly sized vehicles should still have a higher level of build quiality and finish than your average Japanese or Korean midsize saloon.

Phew, tough crowd. I must say that I'd be very interested to have a one on one interior review with some of you.
I sit here going "what do people expect"? There is nothing disappointing in the G30's interior by all reasonable accounts.

I'm just talking about the E. I haven't yet seen a new 5 and I hope it's better than the base model E's.

Just like Audi.....

Yeap, and a 50k car is cannot have a 25k interior.

It doesn't.
Go check it out and form your own opinion.

If you have the big screens in the E class, all's good. Nothing more needed to have a great interior.
The hyperbole is strong here.

Remember the older models, like the W124 and E28, only difference between high spec models and base was the inclusion of a clock instead of a rev counter and some cloth seats instead of MB tex or leather. The dash and center console trim was virtually identical.

This is a highly interesting testing method and nice to see the cars handling/road holding behavior in extreme maneuvering conditions. The 5-series behaves very well, it doesn't show much tendency to over or understeer, very neutral with slight body roll.

As a comparison the E-class shows more tendencies to oversteer in extreme maneuvering, which is unusual for a Mercedes Benz, as most times they are considered to be more conservative and safe in past models preferring to understeer.

Hey @Rolf you should see what happened with the new Jaguar XF R-Sport V6 when they did the same test.

Basic 5 series and E class interiors are looking to have similar cheap looking interior or maybe BMW is better. It looks like both brands are focusing more on exterior design in order to create an expensive look while cutting costs on the inside. The E220d with basic trim that I've drove has same interior quality of a VW, the later had even better nav system... lol
