Ali, did BMW release any press shots of the driver getting increasingly angry at the gesture control not working? Any photos of him trying to increase the volume with his right hand only for it to increase slightly before he has to start over again? Any photos of him moving his hand in the gear selector area, only to turn the radio on by accident when the car detected the movement? Any photos of a passenger constantly activating the radio just by moving somewhere close to the centre console? How about the driver pointing at the map on the screen only for it to switch to the menu page because it thought it was a two finger gesture when it wasn't?

Gesture control. Biggest load of crap I've ever experienced on a car. BMW shouldn't be allowed to advertise something like this when it simply DOES NOT WORK.

I am pretty sure they would have crashed the car before any photos can be taken.

Betty, I can't remember, but can you put it off/disable the gesture control in the 7er? Gesture control is an extra for the 5er btw

The advantage at the 5-Series is gesture control is only an option.

540i Luxury Line
Alu rims type 663
Nappa leather
Comfort seats
Navigation Pro
Metallic ( I would choose an individual colour, so I have to take the double list price of regular metallic)
Chrome line exterior
Heating rear seats
Display key
4-zone AC
Ambient Air package
Adaptive LED headlights
Dimming mirrors
Sun protection glazing
Park assistant plus
Multi Information Display
Drive Assistant plus
Automatic bootlid (added)

76.400 €

It's less than an earlier configurated F10 535i. For this one I've got a list price of about 78.000.
But one position is not yet available: leather at the dashboard upside.
This point is included in the F10 configuration.

With this leather dashboard both models are have more or less the same price. Although the G30 has the better equipment.
:dazed053:
I would love to know how a Mercedes E400 with the same item specs would cost, if the price would be much more than the 540i.

Yes you can disable it, which is what I did eventually.

The advantage at the 5-Series is gesture control is only an option.

Not really an advantage to people who have seen it in the brochure and paid good money for it. If the gesture control was a separate product and not an option on a car, BMW would be charged with selling faulty goods.

It really annoys me that they can get away with something not working. I would be asking for my money back on the option had I specced it.

Not happy with the 7, I guess?

On the contrary. It was very good. I keep saying I'm going to post my thoughts on it, and I will. Just haven't stopped travelling for the last two weeks.

Yes, you're right despite press release stated these were exclusive to the 540i, but the screenshot I posted aren't the same (trapezoid) as the 540i but similar to the M550i (rectangular).

It seems to be better integrated than the F10.

The black shiny plastic surrounds on the vents and HVAC controls looks a bit cheap in this version. The infotainment screen also looks a bit odd in this shot, in my opinion it doesn't look as well integrated on the dash as the 7-series or 3-series.

What did you think of the gesture control when you had the 7er?

I've tried it a couple of times, but it doesn't even work properly in a controlled showroom environment to be honest....

And off topic, but I had my first drive today in the 5er's biggest rival! Very nice car!

@rs271 Rainer is this pic of the basic 5 interior with smaller screen and analogue instruments? I would be interested to see a pic of the standard instruments on the new 5 series.

The instruments are definitely the standard instruments. It's seems they are identical with the 7-Series standard instruments.
By now I have not seen a real pic of a new 5 with this serial cluster. Therefore for a comparison this one of a 7-Series:

The same with the serial screen. I could't find a real pic. But it seems that the configurator is shows the standard screen. For example it has not the chrome frame like the screens in the other configurator pics.

Sorry, Rolf, that I have not more for you. :)

^^ Also it looks like the M550i steering wheel comes with leather facing with stitchings?

No, as of now you can't. In most markets that is. It removes the M-Pack when added and vice versa.
Don't be mistaken by the M wheel. The configurator is still rough around the edges it seems.

Rough indeed. It's simply pulling moves that don't exist.
A real shame it removes the M pack with the blue leather. The blue leather interior is what I'd want, but M pack clearly over it.

Of course you can. There's even a photo of it above your post!

The BMW option list may be vast, and the configurator cool, but one thing is getting worse: many things are impossible to get together. It's a nightmare puzzle.
Clicking one option almost always removes another.
