3 Series (G20) [Official] BMW 3 Series (G20)

The BMW G20 is the seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: G20 (sedan), G21 (wagon/touring), G28 BEV (i3), and G28 (long-wheelbase). Predecessor: F30 3 Series. Successor: G50 3 Series. Production: October 2018-2016.
This is a spectacular image of the 3er. I recently sat in the Touring M340i and it is spectacularly handsome. I love the generation 1-X3 window kink. It really suits the car.
We will be seeing the Touring shortly.

However one thing distracts me from this 3er image and that is there is something horrible lurking in the background.

The MINI Countryman.:eek::nailbiting:

I wonder if BMW will do the same dual exhausts on each side for the next 320i also

If they are present in the 320d surely they are in the whole line including the 320i

Wow, look great in those shots. Great stance, looks to have very little body roll. But - and it's a big BUT - it remains to be seen how firm-riding the M Sport is going to be. I really want to drive the G20 extensively for myself to find out what's the story.

Can't wait to see how rigid the transmission tunnel console is compared to the flimsy one on the F30.

This rear lights really pop out when the car is black, they should be really striking and distinctive to look at in the night.

The 3 series has landed in SA and it looks great. Kind of weird to say that considering we used to build the 3er right here now we have to import.
Trying to work out exactly where this photo was taken - my best guess is the R 566 in the vicinity of Rosslyn.
Sad about 3 Series not being made in SA anymore - it will make for a much harder task in sourcing a car in stock with a specification that's close to one's wants. My F30 was ex-stock (as in I didn't have to place an order for it to be built) and pretty much exactly what I wanted. Now, as an SA buyer, you'll either have to take what's been imported or place your order to spec and wait for it to be built.

When LCI debut I expect all engines in the 3 Series to be mild hybrids. Jaguar have already gone down that route with the new Evoque and face-lifted XF.

iNext will be the first 48v car I believe, followed by the CLAR II next gen 7er where all engines will be 48v, and from there all ICE engines will get them. 48v system 2.0 that is, not the weak systems found in some cars today. BMW is skipping the first gen of mild hybrids because they are expensive and not good enough.

In my opinion, current 48V tech translates into inconsequential real-world benefits if those benefits are deemed to be performance, efficiency over output and environmental efficiency.

Fully agree with you martinbo. Looking at the new 1.5 Mercedes 4-cylinder in the C-class with mild hybrid tech as an example, it has no benefit in performance or economy over the previous 2.0 motor, as tested by AMS it is slower despite having the 10kw electric motor E-boost.

iNext is a BEV, so it hardly would be a 48v car

G20 Torsional Rigidity

Larger of this value, the better:

E46 - 18,000 Nm/deg
E90 - 22,500 Nm/deg
F30 - 29,300 Nm/deg
G20 - 36,625 Nm/deg (based on 25% more than predecessor)

E46 M3 GTR (w/roll cage) - 46,000 Nm/deg
F80 M3 - 40,000 Nm/deg

G20 is approaching F80 M3 stiffness overall, and even higher in body stiffness in certain area if 50% is applied.

Off topic but the new iPad Pro : 0.1 Nm/deg ?
