2 Series [Official] BMW 2 Series Active Tourer

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
Because someone in Bavaria had a brain fart and didn't follow the new product identification system where coupes are even numbered 2,4,6, stupid coupes have an X ie. X4, X6 and all the the rest are odd numbered, 1,3,5,7.......

i dont remember if this was explained or not, but why are this 2er and not 1er?

There are two theories I believe. One is that it allows it to be sold more easily in the U.S. which will have the 2 Series Coupe sold there, but not the 1 Series hatchback.

The other reason is that the next 1 Series hatchback may be badged the 2 Series too, which will then leave room for a smaller "entry-level" BMW to compete with the Audi A1 and be called the 1 Series.

The second one makes most sense.
They should just probably created different homologation, like x, z and i, because this car doesnt make sense in 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 series range. Does look nothing like 1 or 2 series. And if it were 1er it probably would be stupid how it is much bigger than 2 series. Well, whatever

Did anyone else notice that the 225i Sport (i didn't check the other models) is €4000 more than a 125i 5-door Sportline?!?!? What the hell is up with that? I guess that's why it's called a 2er, it's more expensive...

It's also a few grand more than the equivalent B-Class.

Well, this is a 2-series and, therefore, we are supposed to pay that much more. This is a "coupe", you know.

That's actually the official explanation by BMW Group ... BMW AG CEO said Active Tourer had got 2er badge due to being bigger & more expensive than 1er ...

Weird explanation though ... Analog to this argument 3er GT should be 4er GT instead ... and 5er GT --> 6er GT.

So, it's either due to marketing reasons in US market (only 2-series is available there), or 3dr & 5dr hatch will also be badged 2er in the future - to make room for sub-compact series which will then be badged 1er.

I think my answer is relevant.

I saw one of these in Bremen a couple of weeks back, IMO BMW screwed up with the interior big time, if they wanted to build a family type vehicle why didn't they purchase a Ford B Max, Renault Senic or VW Touran and copy them. I was really looking forward to this vehicle and in particular the LWB version, now I'm not so sure.

This isn't even as well thought out as the VW Golf Sportvan. I would go as far as saying you'd have to be a bit of a twit to take one over a Golf Sportsvan.

Hmm. I guess I was stupid for thinking that BMW wouldn't charge more for a rebadged, restyled MINI.

If it drives like a BMW than I think it has a USP. Let us wait for the testdrives....

I did check the 2er ActiveTourer pricing... it's ultra stupid :)
It's too expensive for what it is. Would be a major concern for me when I try selling them... or maybe I won't even bother.

@4:10 "I'm not one of those BMW drivers that likes RWD..."
Can we get that woman excommunicated??

Is there any publication that has enough balls to tear into this car like it needs to be torn into? This video was like some big Reithofer love orgy.

Unfortunately, this car has huge appeal to the female drivers who couldn't care - or even know - about which wheels are driven. As unnecessary as it is for BMW's image with "purists" it is as necessary for BMW's competitiveness with consumers. Sad as that may be...

Still bugger ugly though.

I personally don't like the idea of this car or its looks, but it will definitely attract alot of woman drivers, especially the ones with kids that use the vehicle as a moms taxi. They will like it cause it has the allure and prestige of the BMW badge while other moms are driving their Scenics, Tourans or C4 Picasso's, so will be more of an image attraction. I don't think they will get many male drivers with this car, but maybe the family men if they don't like sedans or SUV's. An MPV type vehicle like this is not my cup of tea, I wouldn't buy one, rather go for a 3-series/C-class or even an SUV like X3/X5 and GLK/ML.

What family man would drive a sedan, they don't work for families, stationwagons work, SUV's aren't always so great either, most usually have less interior space than the vehicle they were based on, the X5 is a great example of this, the 5 series wagon is far roomier, ditto X3 v 3GT

Good Lord ... or whoever!

Ladies, both of you!!!, you don't like RWD BMWs since they are "useless in the Winter and in wet weather"? Never heard of AWD and xDrive???? Your BMW dealers should be fired immediately! I would sold you X1 xDrive or 1er xDrive in a snap!

Makes me really wonder why UK dealers are not able to sell AWD BMWs to the people who dislike RWD ... and are now so excited by FWD BMW due to it's "all-weather" driving abilities.

Boot divider --- if my memory serves me right ... There are latches back there to hold the folded divider. Somebody please show all these people where they are & how to use them. :)
