2 Series [Official] BMW 2 Series Active Tourer

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
What family man would drive a sedan, they don't work for families

I must be a complete and utter moron of a family man with my spacious 4 door sedan with great rear legroom and capacious boot.

SUV's aren't always so great either, most usually have less interior space than the vehicle they were based on, the X5 is a great example of this, the 5 series wagon is far roomier, ditto X3 v 3GT

I can't recall seeing a 3er GT parked on the beach, tackling a game reserve track or winding down a mountain resort dirt road. X3s and X5s - yes.

I've done a lot of off roading, I have never in 20 plus years of it seen a BMW on anything more than a wet paddock or up a skifield access road. They just aren't built for anything more than that, one look at the wheels and tyres BMW sell them with should tell you what BMW expects them to do.

BTW, I think BMW owes this person some money for inventing the SAC concept. :D

That's the 3er MGC ... not the M version of the GranCoupe, but the Mega Ground Clearance version!

2er AT starting prices vs B-class starting prices (in both cases for basic models) in Germany:

218i (136HP) ... €27,200
220i (192HP) ... €30,850
225i (231HP) ... €37,950
225i xDrive (231HP) ... €39,950

B180 (122HP) ... €26,835
B200 (156HP) ... €28,770
B220 4matic (184HP) ... €33,380
B250 (211HP) ... €34,870

-

216d (116HP) ... €28,950
218d (150HP) ... €31,050
220d (190HP) ... €34,500
220d xDrive (190HP) ... €38,600

B160 CDI (90HP) ... €27,460
B180 CDI (109HP) ... €28,410
B180 CDI BlueEff (109HP) ... €28,890
B200 CDI (136HP) ... €30,640
B220 CDI (170HP) ... €35,780

For the record the B220 CDI has 170hp, not 150.

It's interesting that the 220d and the 220i are both cheaper than the equivalen B-Class. I guess BMW thinks those will be the volume models. Which seems a little weird for the 220d since its the top spec model.

Its actually very good to drive. We recently had a drive of the new petrol and diesel engines for the B series internally against some competitors and they are better than ever. We will see them in the LCI 3er Sedan and Touring and if the C-Klasse's Achilles heel is apparent in one or two of its current engines then the new B series moves the goal posts further.

My bowel is more active than this tourer.

They should have simply labeled this as a Tourer, and then released an alternate version with slightly higher ride height, black plastic cladding all-around and some other minor sporty design elements and called that the Active Tourer.

Like Subaru's strategy with the Impreza hatch vs. XV Crosstrek

I know the Impreza isn't a mini-minivan, but you get my idea. At least then it would actually look 'Active'.

"Active" Tourer should be considered within the context of the entire Tourer family ...
Mind the XXL 7-seat edition of the same tourer is coming (with significantly longer wheelbase) - labeled & marketed as "Gran Tourer".
So, compared to the larger Gran Tourer that smaller one actually is the Active one.
Original name for Active tourer was the CA(S)T - Compactive* (Sports) Tourer (*Compactive = Compact + Active) - yet they have ditched it for the simpler Active Tourer.
The Gran Tourer was originally known as FAST - Family Active Sports Tourer ... now marketed as Gran Tourer.

So, Active & Gran are more or less labels that describe those two tourers within the context of each other ... within the BMW tourer family ...

It is not bad but not my cup of tea as I am not a big fan of MPV's. From certain angles it has a look of the C4 Picasso and even the Golf Plus.

We are getting one of these in July to evaluate. It is going to be interesting but strangely I am very excited to see how it will perform in a multiple of duties.

Its a 218d with M Sport Packet.

It actually looks good and hides it FWD layout better than most. Gotta give it to BMW for that.

How many kids have you got, do you take the car on holidays, do you carry bikes and other outsized loads, a sedan would not work for my family, not enough space.
