Why Harry didn't take over TopGear after Clarkson/Willman's departure, I could never understand.

Has the knowledge, has the connections in automotive world, is quintessentially British, and I have a feeling, has a good sense of humor.
He would be an excellent choice, however I think he enjoys doing what he is now more than anything.

Harry, while he is incredibly knowledgeable and affable, seems to be too low-key for the television. Frankly, us enthusiasts are better off him doing his own thing of substance rather than he doing something that's considered more bombastic for a wider audience. I am just happy he seems sprightly as ever as there was a spell he looked rather gaunt and listless.

Yeah, particularly during his late “Evo Diaries” days when you could tell he was on his way out after the magazine changed direction as soon as he sold Evo.

He’s seems to living the good life as a successful farmer with automakers lining up at his garage to have them test their cars. Can’t beat that.

Really? With that many CGT's they've sold over the years?

I posted this is another thread just recently.

"As it moves past its preoccupation with Dieselgate, Volkswagen, which acquired the Bentley brand in 1998, is finally waking up to the fact that its luxury sedan is losing money hand over fist instead of racking up the hefty margins more typical of the class.

VW’s sports car brand Porsche, for instance, posts a fat 18-percent margin on its vehicles, while Ferrari, owned by the Agnellis of Fiat fame, approaches a 25-percent profit on its cars. Bentley, manufactured in Crewe, south of Manchester, recorded an operating loss of €80 million in the first six months of this year with no end in sight."

So I found out an interesting tidbit from my sales guy at the VW dealership... says to me - the Jetta is about 7-8K to manufacture depending on trim. They are sold at an average of about 22K (w/o discount). If this were to be extrapolated on to more expensive and rarer VW brand cars, I still see a pretty big margin; maybe in the 35-50% range. So the Urus above may be worth 200K to the consumer but would cost VAG about 90-120K to make.

Yes, but the bigger picture is how much profit margin it brings to the overall brand, as there's a ton of associated costs on top of the per-vehicle profit. VW only has a 4.1% profit margin according to Forbes.

Shock At Volkswagen As Skoda Upsets Audi's Profit-Margin Dominance

Absolutely. Skoda has lower overheads than Audi e.g less spend on expensive sports endorsement, celebrity ambassadors or fancy dealer locations.

Maybe the Jetta costs only 8k to manufacture but there are many, many other costs to be considered. I’m pretty sure that VW is not making more than 3% average margin for the Jetta model line.

Maybe you are right, but it doesn’t add up. I was offered a 25.5K 2019 (one spec below the top line) for 19.5. This without me even negotiating. I am sure there is a healthy margin there; maybe my for the dealers but for VAG. That said who really knows what the real deal is. Unless I read the annual report, and extrapolated the margins to tell the real story, I dont think I could tell.
