A masterpiece just like all porsches, and long life to Na engines
This car is insane. We know how Porsche underrates their acceleration figures, and the last GT3 already got times to 100 matching or beating 4.3 seconds. 8.7 seconds to 160 is completely nuts though, especially keeping Porsche's conservative claims in mind. The measured values prove just how well the engine and gearbox are harmonized: the GT3 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, and reaches 160 km/h from a standing start in 8.7 seconds. Its top speed is 310 km/h.

martinbo said:Very interesting to see that the engine is a development of the previous 3.6 litre engine in the 2004 GT3 and not tweaked 3.8 litre from the Carrera S? Why do you suppose this is?

Thanks drronhdrronh said:The 3.6 engine in the turbo, GT2 and GT3 is a completely different engine from the 3.6 in the 996/997 and the 3.8. The engine in the Turbo/GT2/GT3 is a direct descendent of the engine that was in the 911 GT1 from 1996-1998. It is an engine that is more suited to track use. I can't remember the specifics of why though.

Is it really completely different engine i.e. block, cylinder heads etc? I understood the 2004 GT3 3.6 litre to be an enhanced version of the donor engine from the Carrera with forged crank, titanium con-rods, different engine manifold and so on?
Hmm, memory fails me...
Oh and btw, that GT3 RS you've got on order? How many shades of green can you image right now?![]()
Great information. Thanks for the references!drronh said:I did some quick research on this. From Excellence magazine, June 2003 page 65:
"Look under a GT3 on a lift and you might notice that the crankcase number is 964.101.111.5R. Enthusiasts know this proven casing references a period thats more than 10 years gone; its the same case evolved for the 956/962LM Group C cars in 3.2 liter form, used later in the 911 GT1."
Chapter 59 of Excellence Was Expected details the engine development of the 996 GT3, GT2 and turbo- too much for me to type in...
