M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

To whom are you referring? If I look at data provided by OEM to customers either EU weights ( even weight of customer and luggage included) or DIN weights are given. All contain fluids.
Dry weight I only see mentioned on race cars ...

Apparently not, for instance BMW went on record claiming the F80/82 were weighing in at under 1500kg at launch thanks to all the carbon elements... Well that didn't turn out to be accurate so it was obviously the dry weight :) Without generalizing, Italian manufacturers have oftentimes been boasting slightly 'optimistic' weight numbers, in fact pretty much everyone for that matter. Even Alpine, who otherwise did an outstanding job, claimed an accurate 1080kg wet weight for the new A110 and it turned out to be a little bit more. Overall the 'well no but that's the dry weight!' excuse is still too much out there and it's ridiculous.

Lamborghini and Ferrari loves to claim “dry weight”, and also some other exotic manufacteurs. I agree with you that “dry weight” is not very useful for the consumer. This is obviously used to hide the real weight. Alpine A110 have a real weight of 1100-1120 kg, so claiming a weight of 1080 kg before options is not too bad, there are other manufacteurs with far more optimistic weight claims than this.

I understand why this gap is necessary because of the bespoke upholstering but still, it just doesn't look right.

Actually I have it in my 3 series and it looks fine to me as it gives some notion of ‘made by hand’ when if not it would look less upmarket. A hand made tailored suit also looks less ‘perfect’ than a factory made suit while actually it is the proof of attention to detail.

Er...what?

It anything it looks LESS hand made, as it makes it look obvious there are just panels with leather attached to the bottom of the dashboard.

I'll be taking delivery of a 3 Series with the full Merino leather too in about a month.

You’d need a pretty cow to have it cover the full dashboard but...congrats!

In these latest shots the M3 and M4 look fan-freakin-tastic!! The press pics did not accurately showcase the depth in design of the front-end as well as the back-end.

Neither the M3 or the M4 is perfect in my eyes, but definitely far more favorable as more photos & videos come in.

And why do their press photo's always suck?

I figure familiarity to the design will have an effect coupled with wanting to like it from the get-go. That said, I think it is car that can be better appreciated in the metal. Watching the Shmeegal video, I am back to liking the M3 even more. I initially had issues with the front but got used to it. And the Shmeegma vid, actually like the front especially in the Isle of Man green and the M4's Yas Marina Blue interior scheme. The more recent design issue that I had had to do with the rear fender areas of the M3 and M4. The M3's rear door relative to the rear door relative to the flared rear wheel arch irritated me but have come to terms with it. The M4's rear haunches though still look more bloated than I care for. However, in dark colors, the M4's rear fender mass is better hidden.

I still think that the B3 is preferable, especially the Touring, but I am not as averse to the M3 or M4 as I was, say, 3-4 days ago. Let's see how I feel next week.

Always dreamt of a "compact" relatively light sedan with the quality interior of a high end car.
Stitching and leather everywhere (steering wheel center cap incl. - can't stand plastic ones). Premium plastics, metalized buttons and trim... etc.
Plenty of color options and combinations to choose from and that's before we even go Individual. Add to that the amazing seats in both standard and bucket form.
You really can't ask for more. It is superb.
The M3 touring is another big BMW related dream of mine.
Problem is these will neither be compact nor light and this front is only bearable in black while I'd like to go for something more unique and maybe even colorful after so many black cars.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
