M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

Didn't even know this existed!!!

It doesn't, my mistake!

Lol, they built the required number for homologation, sold them all, and as a consequence won a crap load of touring car races and titles... the 320Si very much nailed its brief.

The most recent attempt to cache in on the idea, the 330Si Edition, is indeed a cynical attempt at branding, and I've no idea how it was locally received in its market.
It's a car most owners want to forget ever owning.
To this day it is considered one of the most unreliable BMWs ever made.
I don't think it did great for BMW's image.
That's what I meant by saying "fail".
I drove a brand new one back in the day and I didn't really find it all that much more special than a standard 320i or even the 318d E90 I had back in 2008.

Very well received I’ve seen plenty on the road, but it’s just an appearance upgrade nothing to do with performance or anything in commo with the original E30 325is just a marketing exercise, but it does look like something special on the road I’ll give it that.

Seriously, we get it Luw. It's all you keep talking about, depreciation and discounts ;)
I'm turning into an old fart who pays full price for very few items in life. I buy my socks at Asda and underwear from Aldi.

Too big, too controversial, too expencive..If you really want an M3 and you are an old school guy, wait for the next M2...

It will be extremely interesting to see how well the M3/M4 will sell against the M version of the i4. Although some might say it's like comparing apples to oranges, BEVs and hybrids have substantial tax benefits if used as company cars. This is why I wouldn't write-off the next gen hybrid C63 as a competitor.

Lol. I only just discovered that standards DTRLs are the teary eyed ones. Sacrilege on an M car.

You have to spec laser lights to get the hexagonal DTRLs that we have seen on press cars.

I can imagine numerous buyers getting caught out by this.

A shame "fricken'" laser lights are not standard at this price point, but the teary-eyed look wouldn't deter me enough to get them. Also I am not bothered by how they look.

In practically all the videos of the M4 it is clear that the new one is light years away from the reception that I remember the previous M4 had in its first days, which in many cases disappointed, especially in certain driving conditions (which later was improved until be an icon),

But here and now we see that they loved the car, there are genuine samples of extreme enthusiasm in general and details such as the drift analyzer that amused everyone, the most beautiful buckets in the world, the excellent interior and handling quality, the striking and aggressive that is the exterior, the performance, etc, to mention a few anecdotes, and the car itself is altogether extremely good and tempting
As always, an unbeatable job, better than the rest, as it should be.

Well said agree with you on all points. They hit it out the park once again it’s going to be harder to beat the M3/4 then before.

yes true but these are two quite often opposite points of view: real driving pleasure vs opportunities and benefits coming from the new generation of vehicles.I stick with the first but I don't understimate the second

Sadly I already dislike the shape of the headlights of the 4er, and the boring bland shape of the headlights are highlighted even more on the M4 with it's different facia.....but this poverty spec looks downright ugly. JESUZZZZ the laser lights should be standard on a car that costs around 180.000 Euros fully specced in my country. 180k!

Opinion: Why this is the best BMW M3 in generations
by Matt Saunders
12 March 2021

Quote: "To me, that early-noughties-era ‘E46’ M3 - with its perfect design proportions, neat kidney grille and free-revving atmospheric engine - remains by some distance the very best M3 of them all, and it’ll probably never be bettered for all sorts of reasons. But honestly, I don’t remember another M car of any sort getting quite as close to equalling it for simple driver appeal as the new ‘G80’ just has."

Quote: "The BMW M4 Compeition manages to be both an accomplished all-rounder and a flawed, yet brilliantly exciting sports coupe all at the same time. It’s everyday on-road manners and luxuriously appointed cabin are almost beyond reproach. Yet start to press on the and the wave of seemingly limitless power and torque, combined with a veracious appetite for on-the-limit brinkmanship makes it a heart-stopping streetfighter of a sports coupe. And while it may not have the dynamic finesse of the 911 that its now priced so closely with, there’s more than enough reason to drop £80k on one of Munich’s most radical and controversial M cars yet."

Chris Harris, professional car reviewer and accomplished racing driver with lots of experience of anything on four wheels says the M3/M4 is an M440i "plus".

Yet, random person on an internet forum who displays zero evidence of having ANY real-world experience of cars, and gets his opinions from videos he's watched on YouTube says...

It’s NOT.

I don't know WHO to believe now.

Has the 911 ever been compared to the C63/RS5/ Giula or any other M3 competitor in the past . Seems that it’s always compared to the M3/4 only which is a huge compliment.

Don't believe anybody. Form your own opinion. Maybe your driving skills are closer to @hovabongZA than to Chris Harris ... so maybe your final verdict is also closer to hova's ;)
Seriously: Chris Harris isn't the reborn Jesus. I like his reviews a lot, but there are also other known journalists with different opinions.
And "M440i+" isn't a scientific statement! If you follow his review, then you are aware, that he obviously notes all the extensive changes in steering and chassis ... but the switch from the more raw DCT to ZF8 leads him to this "M440i +" metapher ... so this is debatable and very dependant on personal taste! And obviously: If he would be driving a manual G8x variant, this verdict could be different?

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
