It's an M440i +. Not particularly special.

That sums it up perfectly it seems. It's an M440i +. Not particularly special.
It's a shame that the manual isn't widely available. However the I don't blame BMW. Manual gearboxes on the M3, M4 and M2 likely account for 10-15%.All round positive reviews, pity there won’t be manuals for countries outside the US if I’m understanding correctly ...probably no RHD manuals for that reason for the new M3/4 I’m guessing.

Once the xDrive version has launched and will be point-and-squirt quick in any condition, sales of the manual version and RWD variants will drop.
That's a bit of an extreme verdict. The S58 is a huge improvement over the S55. While the car is more refined than the F80 it's not refined to the extent that it's numb.
This is as good as it gets!
Mercedes, Audi or Jaguar are unlikely to develop an equally raucous performance sedan. Although the Giulia Q4 has a lot of personality, the cabin has big compromises and who knows if it will have a successor.
Fence sitters are best off waiting for the new M2 as it could have a little extra magic that the M3/M4 might be missing because of WLTP regs and other constraints.
A year ago I was attacked by the walking braindead when I said that BMW is going for speed and grip at the expense of fun with this new M3/4 and yet it turns out to be the case.
That's my main gripe with most modern performance cars. BMW is just following suit.Only good for a track. I need fun instead of going to jail for speeding (while still not having fun)
BMW are made to sell to many, not only a few. That's my main gripe with most modern performance cars. BMW is just following suit.
BMW should make a 330/440ti with similar chassis modifications that they have done to the 128ti.That's my main gripe with most modern performance cars. BMW is just following suit.

I meant this is as good as it will get for a new performance saloon in this price range as future performance saloons will increasingly be hybrids or BEVs.That is such a stupid reason to buy a $80k car.
And no. For $80k, you can buy any number of very special used cars. All of which will be more fun than this.

Too big, too controversial, too expencive..If you really want an M3 and you are an old school guy, wait for the next M2...
Although I like the whole package of the car I would not pay list price for one.
Hope it doesn't fail like the 320si.
