C-Class (W205) [Official] 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz W205 is the fourth generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class which was produced by Daimler AG between 2014 and 2021. The W205 C-Class was preceded by the W204 C-Class and superseded by the W206 C-Class. The fourth-generation C-Class was available in sedan (W205), station wagon/estate (S205), coupe (C205), cabriolet (A205) and long-wheelbase sedan (V205) body styles.
AMS mention that a new base 1.6 diesel will replace the older 1.6 in C200d and also 2.0 in E200d.

New Mercedes base diesel OM 654 1.6
Less displacement, more power

With a reduced-size offshoot of the well-known OM 654 engine family, Mercedes plans to offer a new basic diesel for the E and C-Class in the future. The four-cylinder makes up to 160 hp.

The four-cylinder diesel engine OM 654, which was newly introduced at Mercedes in 2016, will be extended downwards in the future. With a 1.6-liter variant to be replaced in the future by Renault supplied OM 626 D16 in the C-Class and abolished in the E-Class, the reduced-performance two-liter diesel. The new engine was presented at the 39th Motor Symposium in Vienna.
Mercedes-OM-654-Motorensymposium-Wien-2018-bigMobile2x-1766d790-1160381.webp

In the current C-Class as 180d and 200d the co-operation diesel OM 626 is used, which does not provide enthusiasm for conservative Mercedes customers. It is different with the E-class than 200d. Here, the Daimler controllers are only moderately pleased, because it is a power-reduced, but otherwise largely identical variant of the expensive two-liter engine. Both concerns should now counteract the new variant with 1.6-liter displacement.

The basic problem with the development of the reduced-displacement version was the previous OM 654 D20, above all with regard to use in the E-Class. The two-liter diesel sets appropriate benchmarks in terms of running culture and power delivery, which reached at least 1.6 of the 1.6, if not surpassed.

Running culture at the level of the two-liter

Mercedes promises for both enforcement. Thus, despite the elimination of the so-called Lanchester compensation by balance shafts, the volume and vibration behavior is almost at the level of the two-liter engine. And there is more power as well. While the previous two-liter base engine released 110 kW, it is now eight kW more in the E-Class E200d. This performance increase can be read directly from the driving values: The new 1.6-liter diesel accelerates the E-Class in conjunction with the automatic transmission in 7.9 seconds to 100, in the previous engine, the exercise still took 8.4 seconds. Even more dramatic is the improvement in the C-Class, but here measured in the manual model. The previous OM 626 D16 achieved a zero-hundred-time of 9.7 seconds, with the OM 654 D16 it is now 8.5 seconds.

Bore and stroke reduced
Although the new engine is 94 percent of the components with the larger two-liter diesel identical, but differs in crucial details. Both bore and stroke have been reduced (to 78x83.6 mm), but the cylinder spacing remains the same. The newly adapted connecting rods and pistons are correspondingly lighter, the moving masses per piston are reduced by 135 grams - one reason for the elimination of the balance shafts and thus their storage and bracing losses. Also, the Panschverluste the engine decrease in comparison to the two-liter engine. The peak pressure of the OM 654 D16 has been reduced to 180 bar, which makes smaller and narrower connecting rod bearings possible.

Premiere celebrates the so-called conics shape process for the OM 654 D16, for the first time with an aluminum block with steel pistons. In this case, the lower portion of the cylinder bore is slightly widened during honing in order to achieve a homogeneous course when operating machine. Without this technique, when the engine is warm, the piston is "necked" in the area of bottom dead center compared to the hotter top cylinder area. All these measures are to be reflected according to Mercedes in an under-consumption of around five percent despite increased performance.

The OM 654 1.6 will go into production in 2018. He premieres in the E-Class and in the MOPF version of the C-Class.

Don't know if it's repost...Is it weird if I say that I really like Diamond grille and lower Maybach
accents on this render ? Also 3 LED stripes and AMG wheels are to much...

What a joke of a render lol..btw does anyone know when the press drives of the FL C class are starting since it's been 3-4 months since the car was unveiled but nothing yet..

The test drives should be any time soon as the cars are for sale now in Germany.

In Hong Kong, the dealer has the C200 availabke for client test drives. Maybe the press are too focused on the other new models..

On another note, the dealer also mentioned that C43 production slots are sold out till at least October (HK allocation at least)

The price for the c200 is crazy for a 1.5litre engine. It makes the e200 a bargain to buy.

They say i don't have it...maybe my mercedes showroom in my country don't know about it?
I mean, that feature in that video, means, when your car is hit, you get a notification on your smartphone/comand and also the 360 cameras are activated to record a possible hit and run
I have W213 with comand+360 cameras and my dealer say that this generation does not have this feature.I will try to ask in different country

Depends on how old your car is and which Comand generation is installed. Check the MB site as well.

UG. Love my C43, but wishing I could have this one... Still have over 2 years left on my current lease.

Mercedes C-Class facelift (2018): test, engines, prices

S-Class technology for the C-Class
Mercedes revises the C-Class. The design is changed only slightly, but there is a lot of new technology on board. How To Cars has the driving report and all the information

Presentation: Minimal changes in the design

Mercedes C-Class has been on the market for almost four years and is still extremely popular among customers. So popular that almost every fifth new Mercedes is a C-Class . Now it's time for a facelift - and not to scare the customer, the update optically more than cautious . With 6500 new parts it is on paper the most extensive facelift in the history of the model, but the new parts have hid Mercedes well. Even brand connoisseurs have to look twice to the facelift to recognize the C-class. The front aprons of all equipment variants are slightly changed. The same applies to the radiator grille, the AMG Line is now available as standard with the diamond grill, the Exclusive Line carries the star on the hood. At the rear of the facelift is to recognize a newly designed lower part in the apron. The illuminated graphics of headlamps and taillights has also been redesigned. But: The fresh C-Class comes standard with halogen headlights. While Mercedes deliberately withholds the appearance of the C-Class facelift, there are some on the technical side of some additional charges - especially in the areas of driver assistance systems and networking . The revised C-Class will be available from July 2018 with a large range of engines at the dealer. Let's go at just under 40,000 euros for the Mercedes C 200 sedan , bringing the price remains at the level of Vor facelift models.

Interior: C-Class without widescreen cockpit

The designo leather is very high quality, but also costs more than 4000 euros.

The most important info first: Mercedes offers the widescreen cockpit in the C-Class not even for a surcharge . The reason: The technical effort would be too big for a facelift. With about 6500 new parts, the model maintenance is already the most expensive update of the model history anyway. As standard, the facelift model continues to rely on a classic two-tube instrument cluster and a seven-inch screen above the center console. Against 893 euros extra offer the Swabians a fully digital instrument display in 12.3 incheswhich is definitely worth the money. The presentation options are extremely diverse, so there are three different styles available. All in all, the fully digital display is very reminiscent of Audi's Virtual Cockpit - with the difference that the Mercedes does not make the complete display to the Navi card. In addition, the screen above the center console measures 10.25 inches on request, This combination compensates for the absence of the widescreen cockpit. In addition, the C-Class gets the new steering wheel including the well-known from various models touch buttons. Compared to its predecessor, the cruise control lever on the left side is also eliminated. The cruise control settings go (as in the competition) into the steering wheel. Other changes only concern details: The start / stop button has been redesigned and is now standard, so that the key can always stay in your pocket. Our test car was also equipped with the new magma gray / black designo interior. Sitting position and material processing are still good.

Driving: The new C 200 with EQ boost in the test

Under the bonnet of the fresh C-Class works the new four-cylinder engine generation M 264 with 1.5-liter capacity and 48-volt system . A belt-driven starter-generator (RSG)replaces the conventional starter. Means: For example, when rolling towards the traffic lights, the engine turns off at 8 km / h. Accelerates the car, the four-cylinder jumps on extra quickly. To be precise: within 400 milliseconds. The process is much more comfortable than with many other start / stop systems. The 184 hp C 200 pushes at low speeds surprisingly strong. That's because of the EQ boost, which supports the burner from idle speed not only with 14 additional horsepower , but especially with 160 additional Nm . So accelerates the base model in a whopping 7.7 seconds to 100. The engine is quite loud at 4500 rev / min. Turning off the gears is not necessary, after all, the well-known Neun gang automatic has the right gear for every situation and generally works extremely calmly and reliably. This ensures that the C 200 is very quiet on low tours. The Dynamic Body Control suspension for 1071 euros extra has also been revised in detail by Mercedes. This is how the facelift of the C-Class drives comfortably - even without the even more expensive Air Body Control air suspension.

Driving Assistance Package Plus is a real relief

The new driver assistance package plus (2499 euro surcharge) comes from the S-Class and relieves the driver, especially on long autobahn passes. This is how it works: The steering wheel buttons are used to set the speed and the desired distance to the vehicle in front, and if desired, the C-Class can also keep track of it all by itself. Important: If you let your hands off the wheel for 15 seconds, you will get a warning message. If the handle remains off the steering wheel, the system switches off. And from now on, the C-Class, just like the E- and S-Class, can change lanes on its own: When the systems are switched on, it is sufficient to tap the turn signal - and within a very short time the camera and radar sensors check the surroundings. If it fits, the C-Class will change the track automatically. At the end of the test drive, of course, we are interested in what the fuel-saving technology including downsizing, revised start / stop system and new aerofoils brings in real consumption. Mercedes indicates the C 200 with 6.0 to 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers. After 100 kilometers of highway, highway and city, the on-board computer displays sobering 10.7 liters. Although this value is still improving to 8.9 liters of average fuel consumption after around 150 kilometers of driving, the bottom line is still too high.

Equipment: In the base only halogen headlights
Mercedes-frischt-die-C-Klasse-auf-560x373-ed05201c991d4353.webp

The Exclusive-Line can be recognized by the star on the bonnet. Brand new: the 18-inch Aerofelgen.

For the optics are four equipment lines, called at Mercedes exterior lines, to choose from. Customers can choose between the series, Avantgarde, Exclusive and the AMG Line. In addition to the previously unavailable fully digital instrument display for 893 euros extra charge, the C-Class is the first multibeam LED headlight with "Ultra Range" remote light . There are 84 individually controlled LEDs in each headlamp, which can adapt very quickly to traffic situations - for example, they dazzle when there is sudden oncoming traffic. However, this high-tech feature costs 934 euros extra, because standard equips Mercedes C-Class only with halogen headlights. Optional are also "LED high performance" lightsto have those of the illuminated graphics inevitably remind of an insect. The color palette has been expanded to include the two coats "Mojavesilver metallic" and "Emerald green metallic" for sedan and T model and "Selenite gray" for coupe and convertible. Great choice also for the rims: Mercedes offers a total of 20 new wheel designs for all body styles, including special aerofoils with particularly good CO2 values. In the interior, Mercedes offers the multicontour seat package for an additional charge, in which the side bolsters and lumbar support can be individually adjusted. The so-called "Energizing" comfort control, in which different systems (air conditioning, seats and multimedia) in the C-Class are tuned to the driver's mood, is already known from the big brother S-Class. Brand new is also an additional sound system with 225 watts , which is sorted between the basic solution and the expensive Burmester system.

Connectivity: driver assistance systems from the S-Class

The digital instrument display and the screen above the center console can be operated via the touch buttons in the steering wheel, via touchpad and controller (with haptic feedback) or with the advanced voice control. As in the E-Class and the S-Class facelift, vehicle functions such as seat heating via Linguatronic can now be operated as well. This works well in the test, but of the intuitive voice control MBUX A-Class the C-Class is still far away. Customers have to wait until the next generation of the bestseller. Also in the driver assistance systems, Mercedes has refilled again: For example, the camera and radar systems were improved in the facelift of the C-Class, also from now on also navigation data for assistance functions are used. The extended active brake assist is standard on board. The Comand system has been upgraded with faster 3D HDD navigation and 3D building visualization. For the C-class there is also the well-known concierge service and inductive charging.

Engines: two four-cylinder launch
Neue-Technik-fuer-die-C-Klasse-560x373-441749faf0281cce.webp

The 1.5-liter four-cylinder is derived from the internally M 264 two-liter four-cylinder and has a very high liter performance.

The C-Class starts with a wide range of engines, including completely new units. The C 200 puts a 184 hp four-cylinder gasoline engine with 1.5 liters displacement (M 264) under the hood. Always on board is a 48-volt system with belt-driven starter generator. The electric motor ensures that the turbo lag is eliminated when accelerating, also the car can sail like that. The new C 220 d has a four-cylinder diesel with 194 hp. Very important: Both new engines meet the strict Euro 6d TEMP emission standard. Priced starts the C-Class facelift at 39,948 euros for the C 200. In addition, the C-Class will go with a 160 hp diesel engine (200 d) and an even smaller entry-level diesel with 122 hp (180 d), top diesel should be the new C 300 d. The gasoline offer is similar: In addition to the entry-level C 200, there are the C 300 with 258-horsepower four-cylinder and the C 400 4Matic with 333 hp V6. Above rank the AMG models C 43 with now 390 hp and C 63 with up to 510 hp. Somewhat opaque are the market starts of the individual engines at Mercedes. Not all engines can be ordered from now on, some variants will be added - of course within the first few months, assures Mercedes.

Conclusion

Mercedes has made the bestseller with minimal optical, but many technical changes fit for the next few years. Especially the driver assistance systems from the S-Class and the fully digital instruments convince. The newly developed four-cylinder is very quiet and sufficiently powerful, but the consumption is high.
