A1/S1 [Official] 2019 Audi A1

The Audi A1 is a luxury supermini car launched by Audi at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Sales of the initial three-door A1 model started in Germany in August 2010, with the United Kingdom following in November 2010.
Not bad for an absolute poverty spec. The front hasn't lost its athletic presence. You would need to be a badge whore to buy this over a decently specced Polo or Fabia.

Without mentioning the country it's on sale in, that article is meaningless.

Despite the no-thrills appearance it surprisingly has AC. That makes me think this spec is for the South American market.

Here’s The Most Basic Audi A1 Money Can Buy: Hubcaps, No Radio
You’ll have to entertain yourself on the commute to work.

When you see an ad for a new car – whether it’s online, in print, or on TV – you know the starting price is often a hoax. No, that doesn’t mean the car’s starting price is arbitrary. The entry-level cost...

I was under the impression that the Fabia, Ibiza, Polo and A1 are trim levels of the same chassis, pretty much.

:D

While its' price worthiness is undeniably arguable, the new A1 simply oozes "premium". A great entry by Audi. In my currently imagined "dream garage", it would share space with a Porsche 992 Carrera 4S coupe and a BMW Individual tweaked M8 Gran Coupe as my "every day urbanite car". And I'll toss in a Triumph TR5-just for giggles.

I think it's a very good looking hatch(in the right configuration). But it seems odd not to have an electric parking brake for a new vehicle in 2018.

All-New Audi A1 Spied Developing An Allroad Personality
Surprise, surprise: the second-generation Audi A1 will get an Allroad version for the first time.
Fresh off a visit to the 2018 Paris Auto Show, the 2019 A1 will be able to explore new territories thanks to a jacked-up Allroad version Audi has in the cards.
Want proof? These are the first spy shots of the upcoming Audi A1 Allroad, spotted on and around the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack.
Yes, even Allroad models must pass the “Green Hell” test nowadays. While it may not look like an Allroad model at first glance, a closer look blows its cover. It features a slightly higher ride height, a new grille, and wider wheel arches.
The camouflage covers strategic areas including the fenders, side sills, and bumpers, all of which will be unique to the A1 Allroad. The bumpers will likely feature skid plates at their lower ends and additional plastic cladding, while the side sills will be wider and will feature protective material as well.

The big question is whether the A1 Allroad will feature a quattro all-wheel-drive system or not. Since the upcoming Audi S1 will be AWD, we’d be surprised if the A1 Allroad won’t be as well. In that case, the A1 Allroad would become an interesting rival for the Q2.

There’s no information on the engines available for the A1 Allroad, but chances are only the most powerful units will be eligible. Expect the slightly more rugged A1 model to debut sometime next year.

I saw the new Audi A1 and it's an absolute show stopper. It's a rare example of what would happen if you put a hypercard designer in charge of designing a hatchback and didn't let finance wash down their vision.

Lord is it nearly unforgivably pricey but damn does it look cool. I love the head and tail light graphics and the 3D sculpturing of the dash is unlike anything I've ever seen. Even the interior door pulleys and their surrounds are cool. Nothing is ordinary and the interior is over designed in a beautiful way.

Getting back to the price. Base spec doesn't look great. To make it look like the car below you would need to spend 100% more than a Skoda Fabia or 70% more than a VW Polo with the same 1.0 TSI engine. In fact you can buy a Polo GTI with an 2.0TSI engine for the same money. So yeah, you are paying a huge premium just for design. Driving dynamics aren't different from a Polo either. It's a not a sporty hatchback.

Thankfully it's not as cramped and cute as the predecessor. Interior room is now the same as in my Skoda Fabia.

Photos don't do it justice but take my word for it. It's stunning and commanding in the metal.

Great post, thanks for giving us a good review of this new version. I was doubtful when I first saw the press pics of the interior but your pics show more close up details of the dash which has unusual angular square off aluminum trim panels and also the top of the dash has like a cliff flat top appearance with the horizontal vents running across the whole of the passenger side. The interior gives the impression of been really solid and well built. I like the exterior styling now it has a mature appearance more in line with its bigger brothers.

The interior is well built but so is the one in the ibiza, Fabia and polo. Audi have used soft touch materials on the top of the dash but the top rolls on the doors and many other areas in the cabin are hard plastic. Where you do feel premiumness is in the steering wheel and switch gear.

It is a very 3D interior with lots of depths and tactile contours.

What will be conflicting for buyers is whether to stick with the 1.0TSI or make the car premium by opting for the 1.5TSI. Do the latter and the car becomes seriously expensive.

To most customers it should matter that a Golf, 1series or A-class cost as much because VAGs B-segment hatchbacks are now so spacious and practical that a bigger hatchback is unnecessary unless you have need a family car or frequently fill the boot.

I finally saw the new A1 on the road. I have to admit that the design is quite good. It looks fresh and not too brutal or shouty. It's fine.

As a hatchback, the new A1 is as premium as premium can be. It looks incredibly desirable in some specifications and is one of very few affordable cars with a visual wow effect inside and out.

The last A1 was very premium, this one feels less premium when you sit in it. I don't even think they offer Audi exclusive leathers at all anymore.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
