911 (991) [Official] 2014 Porsche 911 GT3

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car, produced from September 2011 to December 2019. It was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997.
People of course have not have driven these future turbo 911 variants, but have driven enough turbo powered cars to understand the differences and what will probably be lost if Porsche does switch to an all turbo line up. Soup, that you originally quoted, AFAIK, owned or still owns a GT2 or GT2RS. I think it is safe to say he probably has a good idea of how a turbo powered 911 drives.

As for the "bitching and moaning", others call it as expressing one's opinion. And yes, that is what usually happens in Internet forums.

As things currently stand, I'd pick NA over FI but that doesn't mean I'm not open to change. The automobile is all about change. It's just weird that in a forum dedicated to the automobile, people are so unwilling to embrace one of it's greatest attributes.

No worries there Sunny, the GT2 is still breathing and has seen some insane speeds when the turbos are fully spooled up, the on/off thing on these turbocharged cars does wear off over some period of time and that's exactly why I ordered a Lambo with a stick back in 2012 and have never looked back.

I was thinking of replacing the GT2 and wanted to stay in the Porsche family and locate a CGT in mint condition, but due to its high cost of maintenance and mismatched interior/exterior color, I decided to stay away from the CGT. Same goes for the LFA that I had a quarrel with the staff upon delivering wrong information and forced me to look elsewhere.

991 GT3 was on the list and A MUST have, but the barbeque party in the back and supplier issue got me worried,I wasn't ready for an engine replacement nor a sudden firecracker starting all on its own on the highway or spirited driving.

Some sacrifices will be made, but the replacement should be worth it.

Next question when they change all over to turbo engines what will happen with the badging especially for THE performance model, 911 Turbo?

Nothing, just like a 335i and M3 are pretty different, yet both turbo..

I'd say there's a fine line somewhere. Not all turbocharged engines are the same, just as not all N/A ones are not the same. But N/A in principle and in our hearts has a more respected position.

No, I understood it was about the name on the back only, I was just too lazy to create a proper answer. Saw your post about the Macan S and Macan Turbo too :)

Thanks for the heads up, though!

I haven't been keeping track, but has there been any new accidents/fires since Porsche remedied the issue(s)?

So far, nothing that I've heard of, just a new blue light comes on to keep you aware of keeping the revs below a certain rpm on a cold start.

Even after the engine is properly warmed up, can you take it close to redline?

Sure you can.

From my understanding, Porsche added this feature for new comers that I've witnessed with my own eyes blowing up several engines for revving the hell out of it on cold starts, this was before the announcement of international recall early this year.

That sounded fun and exciting.

So Soup, are you waiting for the 991 GT3 RS?

That's the biggest topic these days on P-car forums....what the upcoming GT3 RS will be like and all the speculation about what it will or will not have. My personal guess is that there won't be anything too dramatic or surprising from the chassis point of view.....maybe some firmer suspension than the GT3........but I think the upcoming GT3 RS will exploit higher downforce levels to improve the handling. Of course, it will have more power too, with a rumoured 4.0L engine and lighter weight with a magnesiuim roof.

Stuttgart is too busy with Macan's and future family sedans/suvs, they no longer care about their faithful 911 customers that supported them through the years.

The least of my concern is another Porsche after the long wait to get my Cayenne GTS fixed, which decided to go into limp mode on day 3, so simple answer is no 911 or any other Porsche in the future.

The Cayenne was replaced with a Merc M-Class, as for the GT2, I know I'm going to regret it for some time, but the replacement won my heart during a 1hr test drive and I can't get it out of my head.

A big change is on the way. It also saddens me to let go of a fine 911 with a manual gearbox that has a very precise and short throw. If I could travel back in time, I'd order a 997.2 GT3 or RS4.0 if I was a track junkie.

Nothing personal against turbocharged sportscars, but I'm beginning to realize I'm more of an N/a guy rather than building up boost and wait for the rear tires to break loose then BANG!

Just my two cents...

You do realize that your profile pic is an F40 right? ;)
