LS [Official] 2013 Lexus LS

That's about the cheapest, lamest looking wood I've ever seen on a car (and the walnut burl looks like plastic)
How Lexus consistenly manages to make wood look soooooo bad and plastic, is beyond my thinking.
Regards!
Like this wood from one of the Euro brands is soooooo much better and doesn't look like plastic, right?

Yes, MILES better than that crappy wood on the LS. Besides, and most important is how it looks in real life. Lexus wood always looks like plastic, I still can't understand how the japanese, being helluva woodworkers manage to make the wood that artificial looking and ugly.

Yup, it looks like. One of the cheapest wood available

Regards!

Interesting that you would say "MILES better," considering the pictures I posted were of the LS.

Snob much?;)

Various companies use bamboo. It's not because it's cheap.

Nope snob, because of this:

And still, it doesn't stop the bamboo one to look as the cheapest wood I ever seen on any car..... (not talking about fake wood on Chevys or Ford) which was my first point. But I understand you and 330CIZHP are too fanboy blind to get it.

By the way Guibo, as you love to validate your points of view by using journalist opinions, why you don't quote the coments about the wood on Lexus in Top Gear's reviews?

Just saying

No just that you are too big of a hater to accept that you are wrong. You have a pattern of going to Lexus threads and even when the facts prove otherwise, you never accept.

Trust me, I have seen most of the of BMW, Merc wood trims and Lexus wood trims in recent times. Above everything, the terrible cheap, grainy, hard plastic used for cowel in my manager's expensive new $80,000 SLK 55 AMG is completely abysmal. I need to take a close picture of it to illustrate. Yet, you have the audacity to single out Lexus and other Japanese cars???

Nothing more to say other than you are complete full of it.

Yet, again. Hater got OWNED!!!!

I really would like to know why I'm a hater. I mean >>really<<

I always make the same critics from most cars, from my beloved Mercedes, going through Audi and down to Alfa Romeo.
And the only guys that react like teenagers in their period and call me a hater for that are the Lexus fanboys.

Go figure

Edit:
No just that you are too big of a hater to accept that you are wrong. You have a pattern of going to Lexus threads and trash talking and even when the facts prove otherwise, you never accept.

You have answered my last question.

First, I don't chase Lexus threads and go trashing. The problem is some fanboys like you are completely closed to critics. Just go check the SL, CLS or A class thread and see how much I critize my fav brand ever: Mercedes.

And trust me too then (as somebody who makes musical instruments out of wood) most of Lexus interiors and their wood always looks more plastic and lifeless than the german premium brands, and it's not hate, it's just the sad truth.

But you conferred the status of quality on something based on internet pictures. You didn't have to answer that question, but you did.
I could counter TopGear's reviews by those of other magazines, like Autocar saying "Cabin is comfortable with high class materials used throughout and clever detailing" in an RX with wood trim. Or C&D who said of the GS: "Dress up the hybrid with the optional bamboo interior trim, and the cabin brightens significantly. Grasp the bamboo steering-wheel rim, and your hand will guess Jaguar, Bentley, something British?"
So what?

Nothing more to say other than you are complete full of .......

One last though, I think the only person that must be completely full of..... must be you.

First, I never insulted you nor give you a reason to insult me. I don't remember getting personal or attacking with you.
And that takes me to my second point, there must be something wrong within you to react that way, I mean we are discussing cars and if I don't like something or find it inmensily cheap is not a reason to go attacking others. At a point you seen paranoic, I think this is the 3rd time ever that I've critize a Lexus and you already come out labeling me as a hater.

If you think I'm wrong or you're right, improver your argument, don't go out labeling me that way.

Regards

Thank you.

I prepared lots of quotes from many reviews that offer luscious praises for the interior quality, but since Giannis has asked to park it, I will not respond to any of it.

No, I didn't confer the status of quality based on a picture, I base it on my own experience, as I work everyday with wood.

And like it or not, bamboo is a extremely cheap wood (and cheap looking), you can google it if you don't trust me, as seems the case.
Why Lexus choose to put such a cheap wood (and make it looks even cheaper, in my opinion) on their cars is beyond me

Regards

Well, I for one have never been impressed on a personal level with a Lexus interior. Not the 2012 LS, not the 2013 GS of which I recently drove around for a day.

My Mom has a newer ES, and I don't know whether the wood is real or fake on it, but it LOOKS fake, and cheap

IMO, most Japanese car interiors, even the higher quality ones, like the new GS's technically is, usually don't have that "weighted quality" of good German interiors. The buttons are usually chintzy, light (this goes for the current pre-facelift-facelift LS as well), the doors are light and have bland sounds when closing, as do the switches. There's an "airiness" to the looks and feels that lack that "granite" one I like from certain German cars.

Also, there's an intangible lack of "sexiness" to Lexus interiors. The shapes, the feels, the designs, just don't "turn me on" like a Mercedes or some BMW interiors will [No Robo], for example. This goes for the current LS, current ES, and new GS.

As for Bamboo, who the hell wants Bamboo shoots in their rides? :D

Again, very subjective, but my experiences are completely opposite to your's.

For one, I have mentioned above the cheap and terrible grainy plastic used as a cowel in the SLK 55 AMG. Have you ever looked at it??? Just look at it closely and it looks like Dodge's legacy to Mercedes.

Then my friend has an Audi A5, which is fairly new and it also has plastic all over the place. Although, the design looks quite modern, but the quality is nothing like the price he paid for.

Anyway, I drove the E90 M3 sedan 6 speed manual and IS-F back to back a while back. Though, overall I loved the E90 M3 more than the IS-F and saw myself only buying the M3, if I were to buy one today, but the thing I admit is that the Lexus had much bettter quality and feel than the E90 M3. Not that there was a huge difference, but the IS-F interior felt more special than the austere interior of the E90 M3. I would say my E46 seems to have a more exciting interior than the E90.

Yet again, if I were to buy one today, I would get the E90 M3 without a doubt.

And then again, Lexus could not have won so many awards for fit, finish, quality and workmanship, if they had not been putting out top quality products, let alone earning praises from every critic.

The only criticism ever levelled against them is that Lexus cars are bland and soulless and I don't disagree with it. Other than that, their quality, engineering (many of the things they invented have now become the industry standard) and reliability is hard to fault.

You did, because I offered up pictures for you to assess. You assigned them a level of quality higher than that of a Lexus. Despite the fact that the pictures were of Lexus products.

As for bamboo, BMW uses it too. For Lexus/Toyota, who started the hybrid movement as we know it, there's a connection to the environment and sustainability that perhaps you missed. It is also gaining more acceptance as use in hardwood floors, furniture, and fine cutlery for similar reasons.

8 speed automatic, that is just one.

Oh I thought you had something truly significant. Yes they were first with 8, but they wouldn't be that if Benz wasn't first with 5 or 7 gears.

Other than hybrids I don't see anything Lexus has done to innovate anything, all they do is improve upon what others have toiled over already which is why they don't get a lot of respect in every circle like others do.

4MM tolerances are great, still isn't anything that wasn't already there, whether it be 5MM or whatever before. They didn't originate the idea of superior fit and finish. Others have invented things that changed the industry, other than hybride, Lexus hasn't innovated anything that is truly significant. All they do is improve upon existing technology and practices, which is why Lexus and Toyota in general have superior reliability.
