A3/S3/RS3 [Official] 2013 Audi A3 Sportback

The Audi A3 is a small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Audi AG since September 1996. The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.
I knew the Audi expert would be you Tumbo, haha. What was the A3 5-door called previously? Where I live we only got the 5-door so it was always just the "A3".

Oh and the A1 is considered a sportback as well :/

The first A3 (1996-2003) was a 3-door and 5-door version. No names. As it should be actually.
And that A1 Sportback name is ridiculous. Its just a damn 5door A1! Whats so sporty about that back?

German Audi site says (through google translate) that 1,4 A3 get a 4 link rear suspension I guess this is a multi link.

Quote: "Basic A3s now get Torsion beam Suspension". This is reported in an erroneous context. As far as I know only the base 1.2 TSI A3 gets torsion beam suspension. All other FWD models have the familiar 4-link setup.

I think it's as Martin said. It seems to be VAG's new (stupid) policy, as it's the same with other models as well. For example, the 1.4TFSI Beettle comes with torsion beam, yet the 2.0TFSI comes with multilink rear suspension. Go figure...

I saw one at the dealership today in 'Brilliant Red' with the S-line sports package. It looked like a ridiculously classy hot hatch.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
