Q7 Next generation Audi Q7 - CGIs, info, spy pics

Its proof there was turmoil in their design department , evolutionary but no additional excitement which is a pity to back up potential weight loss with something so unadventurous. It makes you wonder what ideas were crumpled up and thrown in the bin.

Actually, I find the comparision quite valid. Both cars feature some heavy new tech, a brand new platform with strong weigh savings, but in terms of design they are really evolutionary.

The problem is the F01 is a good looking car. The Q7 has always looked like a school bus. If you go and use the same design with a huge front grille and stick the same front lights of the Q3 in XXL size and the A6 Avant rearlights, the result is the one we see, a huge PSAH!

I am confident that more than a few would argue that an "evolutionary" exterior design is less worthy of criticism in this particular genre (SUVs') of automobiles than in others (sedans, coupes, convertibles estates...). Progress in tech, weight reduction, space efficiency, variability are of primary focus.

We haven't seen the details, so I'd hazard to say it's just looks like a FL. My expectations have been somewhat low considering they had to go back to the drawing board when the original design was considered too radical.

As might be the case, the new X5 also isn't a good looker; rather an evolutionary step back. More stretched resembling a bread van and not much lighter than the E70 in terms of weight.

2015 Audi Q7 render shows plausible design evolution

Could debut in January at NAIAS
The second generation Audi Q7 has received a speculative digital interpretation based on recent spy shots.

Last week we saw the all-new Q7 undergoing testing with minimal disguise and now X-Tomi Design decided to show us what's probably hiding underneath the camouflage. Don't expect the Prologue concept's styling to rub off on the second generation Q7 because the full-size SUV's styling was finalized before Marc Lichte took over as Audi's design chief.

Instead, the 2015 Q7 will adopt an evolutionary design creating a significantly less bulky appearance thanks to the sharper and more angular styling. While the SUV's appearance won’t be a major departure compared to today's model, everything else will as the Q7 is going to sit on the MLB Evo platform which will bring an estimated 800 lbs (363 kg) diet while matrix LED headlights will be optionally available.

Today's six- and eight-cylinder engines will be carried over with some updates and there are also talks of a range-topping SQ7 variant with a system sourced from the RS5 TDI concept which came with a supplemental electric turbocharger. Also expect a Q7 e-tron with the hardware borrowed from the Porsche Cayenne S-E Hybrid.

The second generation Audi Q7 is programmed to go on sale in the first half of 2015 and will be followed in 2016 or 2017 by a Q8 model with a body style in the same vein as the BMW X6.

Next-gen Audi Q7 getting plug-in hybrid version with diesel engine

A source close to Audi has told Automotive News Europe the second generation Q7 will get a plug-in hybrid version with a diesel engine.

The all-new Audi Q7 will be introduced next year with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines while later on it will eventually get an e-tron derivative packing a turbodiesel engine. Based on a previous statement made by Audi development chief Ulrich Hackenberg, the model will make use of a 3.0-liter V6 diesel combined with an electric motor but other specifications are not available at this point.

This hardware arrangement will also be offered in the next generation A8 set to go on sale in 2017 and inaugurate Audi's next styling direction which has already been previewed by the Prologue concept.

To our knowledge, the only other plug-in hybrid diesel commercialized in Europe is the 1,955 kg Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid which mixes up a five-cylinder 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine, an electric motor, six-speed automatic transmission and 11.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The conventional engine generates 215 HP (158 kW) & 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) sent to the front wheels whereas the electric motor produces 70 HP (51 kW) & 200 Nm (149 lb-ft) delivered to the rear axle.

Needless to say, the Audi Q7 plug-in hybrid will be more powerful since it will likely be much heavier than the Volvo, even though the MLB Evo platform is expected to shave off as much as 363 kg (800 lbs) from Ingolstadt's full-size SUV.

Note: As pointed out by WCF user piotrkorycki3, the V60 isn't the only plug-in diesel hybrid as PSA also has the HYbrid4 system offered on various models.

Why does Audi camoflage their cars?

I mean Audi does quite nice interiors, that all ways looks different to the old models. So why cant they do that on the exterior?

Front looks like a VW. The rest looks like a bus as always with the Q7.
Very ugly. This will again be in it's own little niche.

lol funny that people disappointed by this, are actually happy & excited about the new 7er :LOL::ROFLMAO:

Like Sky said, the F01 is a beautiful car, and the current Q7 is very ugly....

Intel: Audi Q7 Rumors, Render and Information

Car Design Box’s vision of the All New Audi Q7 which will be released at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show. Expect some cool new features like the LED Matrix Headlights, new generation ACC and Traffic Assist, digital instruments similar to the new TT and a stand alone infotaintment screen similar to the A7.

Word on the street is that Audi will drop the new Q7 at the Detroit Auto Show in roughly one month’s time. And, though many spy photos of the car have been circulating, we’ve yet to see anything undisguised. Until that happens, we have found this semi-convincing render fromCarDesignBox.com.

As renders go, we’re split. CarDesignBox used configurator imagery in order to create this render, and based it on the existing Q7. The car’s front wheel comes from the SQ5 (rear wheel remains Q7), headlights from new A7 and mirrors from A3. By using a lot of OE imagery, the car is iconvincing… and yet it’s also a bit odd with some unfinished details like the aforementioned rear wheel.

Beyond that render, we’ve also fun across some interesting intel from AutomotiveNews who says that the new Q7 will also offer Audi’s first plug-in hybrid with diesel range extender. According to the story, the drivetrain will come later after the initial release and it will be available both in Europe and in America. Also, it should hit market ahead of any diesel plug-in equivalents from competitors like Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

Suggestions of just which engine the system will use come from previous discussions Automotive News has had with Dr. Ullrich Hackenberg. According to the report, Audi’s chief of development has said it will use the 3.0 TDI and will also come in the A8.

It will debut in Detroit. It will have 4 wheel steering. 500 lbs lighter, quattro differential, new mmi touch. There's a thread here with all that information about the next Q7 and A4.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
