I guess only time will tell what that gear lever is all about.Just_me said:I have a probelm to see that BMW is going to offer both SMG, DSG and a regular automatic. Why so many gearboxes?
Was it me? ZSG/DCTEniLab said:But remember: "The new X5: Change the rules"
But: one of you got the answer right!

EniLab said:Rememebr the rumours about E70 would have similar Automatic / Steptronic steering wheel mounted shifting lever just like E65 7er?
Now you can see the rumours were wrong. There is a completely new shifting lever - also showing "by-wire" presence by its futuristic design and all the little buttons incorporated.
But what is beneath the skin? Just a new (classic) Steptronic or something more advanced?

Just to puzzle you a bit more: Why E92 Coupe with super sporty Steptronic automatic haven't got the same shifter as E70 & facelifted 5er will get it? Why they need to test the new lever (look at 5er spy pics) if only a Steptronic lever would be new? Would BMW really debut DCT / ZSG in a X5? In 5er: would this replace SMG or Steptronic? Why E90 3er still isn't ofered with SMG, while 5er & 6er are?

Or: wait for another 7 days and you'll get the answer.
