X5 New X5 E70 spy pictures (and videos) - part 2

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

He's saying it's either going to be called Si or iS

It's still a bit complicated.

First the plan was to use "is" for top-end models just below M cars. Than they changed "is" to "si". Then "si" was chosen for "Sport" models - not necessary for top end models. "sii" was mentioned for "Sport" models with turbo engines.

Now you can see the "is" label is still used on X5 marking "Sport" in X5 4.8is.

But lately BMW use "si" label for some special models like 320si, Z4 3.0si, Z4 2.5si - indicating the "si" cars have either more powerful engine and / or some other special features (like sport automatic gearbox with shifting paddles).

I'm not sure whether top-end X5 & X3 will still be labeled "is", or BMW will also start to use "si" label there as well.

Like I said many times before: BMW marketing department moves in mysterious ways.

Thanks for that EniLab!:usa7uh:

I understand it now, love to know how the normal public would know that though!

Probably get more torque from the V8.

Nope , N62B40 v8 -302hp and 288lb/ft , N54B30 i6-301hp AND 295lb/ft ,and lighter,and better mpg.Its could be N62B36 v8-270hp and 266lb/ft,wich is even worst scenario.

Where did you get this??? There is no such engine (3.6L V8), and will be no such engine in X5. It's an old engine!

Is there a projected time on release date for X5 4.8is replacement?

V8 turbo is coming in 2008 with X6 & F01 7er, so X5 will get the same engine just after that. So, I guess about a 15 months after the launch.

Now when the new CL has officially been presented I'll waiting for pictures of the new X5 to leak. Have official pictures of any bimmer ever leaked?

BMW has 3 v8 petrol engines N62B36/3,6L/ , N62B40/4,0L/ , N62B44/4,4L/ , so my question is,why not put I6 BITURBO in e70 from the begining.

N62 has 5 sub-types: B36, B40, B44, B46 & B48.

All of them are old V8 engine family (debute in E65 7er in 2001).

B48 is the latest and the only one in use (mind that B44 in X5 4.4i will be in production only for another month). Edit: of course B40 is also used: in 740i / Li & 540i. :eusa_doh:

But BMW are developing NGV8 engines (according to my info there will be 5.0L NA (2 power configurations: one under 400hp, one above 400hp mark) & 5.0L bi-turbo: with around 450hp) which will come in 2008 with X6, F01 / 02 7er and V5 - and will eventually creep to other models like X5, 5er, 6er, Z8.

Maybe I am misreading the last few posts, but it looks like you're wrong Eni.

BMW DOES have a new 4.0 V8 with 306 hp and 390 Nm. It's a new engine seen in the 740i/Li only.
The could put that engine in the E70 for sure, but I would probably prefer the new 3.0 turbo as well. More torque from the 3.0 turbo too!

Of course I'm wrong! Stupid me. :t-banghea

Sometimes I'm just too fast, and my memory is a bit overloaded these days. Thanx Klier for reminding me. :cheers

Also 540i is having N62B40, not only 740i/Li. But mind that this engine is to be replaced in with N54B30 I6 bi-turbo engine very soon.

Aaah, yes you're right. I somehow thought the 5er didn't have this engine, but that's actually the 6er :t-banghea

Where can I find an engine chart or something, this is getting confusing! :)
