S-Class (W126) Modern classics: the Mercedes-Benz S-Class of the W 126 series

The Mercedes-Benz W126 is a series of passenger cars made by Daimler-Benz AG. It was marketed as the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and manufactured in sedan/saloon (1979–1991) as well as coupé (1981–1990) models, succeeding the company's W116 range. Mercedes-Benz introduced the 2-door C126 coupé model, marketed as the SEC, in September 1981. This generation was the first S-Class to have separate chassis codes for standard and long wheelbases (W126 and V126) and for coupé (C126).
Great review of a 420SEL. I love the blue velour seats they look supremely comfortable.

My brother in law bought a similar 420SEL in the same blue, and is now restoring it. I'll give him some help with the wood trimming once he arrives to interior stage.

I would love to know what he thinks of Mercedes design today.

M
He probably thinks he is lucky cause then they had unlimited budget for engineering and he could use the best materials for the interiors and body work.

Brunno Sacco to Gordon Wagner - "Gordon this new W223 S500 of yours has 2mm thick black piano plastic trim on all the doors, my 1980 W126 500SE had 4mm thick walnut wood trim on the doors, center console and entire dash. It has done 450 thousand km and the leather has not warn."

The leather hasn't worn because it's MBtext!

And the irony is most of it is made from petroleum byproduct, it must be a dilemma for vegans who are often climate warriors, the choices are sustainable resource animal skins or something from big oil!
The emissions produced by the chemical plants producing these petroleum based plastic products is far worse to the environment than using animal leather for the interior. Very ironic that the extreme environmentalists from the WEF want us to have an animal free diet and expects farmers to reduce the number of cattle on their farms to reduce greenhouse methane emissions and the skins of these animals can be used for car seats or even leather jackets.

That's hardly sustainable. I doubt BMW is doing that?

Im guessing that is a 1991/2 300CE (8valve). It looks like in excellent condition. Love the blue velour seats, door panels and door pockets. It must be a smooth drive and with good performance. What an amazing car.

How is the material quality of this compared to newer Mercedes models?
