S-Class W126 Modern classics: the Mercedes-Benz S-Class of the W 126 series

The Mercedes-Benz W126 is a series of passenger cars made by Daimler-Benz AG. It was marketed as the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and manufactured in sedan/saloon (1979–1991) as well as coupé (1981–1990) models, succeeding the company's W116 range. Mercedes-Benz introduced the 2-door C126 coupé model, marketed as the SEC, in September 1981. This generation was the first S-Class to have separate chassis codes for standard and long wheelbases (W126 and V126) and for coupé (C126).
@klier lovely contemporary specification. It looks to me like anthracite velours. If I remember correct the C 124 was a true alternative for W126 S class drivers in the late eighties, very early nineties.

Im guessing that is a 1991/2 300CE (8valve). It looks like in excellent condition. Love the blue velour seats, door panels and door pockets. It must be a smooth drive and with good performance. What an amazing car.

How is the material quality of this compared to newer Mercedes models?

Wouldn’t that be a 12 valve? I mean, the 300 had six cylinders.

This is one of the dream W126 models to have. An AMG spec 500SEL. What a stunning car.

WOW. I would drive this until they take my keys away. The W126 is still the granddaddy of S-Classes.

That colour and interior combo is quite unusual but the car looks spectacular and definitely should be in the Mercedes Museum, it looks almost brand new.

Yeah I've never seen this particular combo before. Usually Desert Taupe was matched with Cream Beige or later on Parchment. I wish Mercedes would bring back this color.

Some kind of Mercedes/Jaguar?
I didn't know about this, very daring

It looks like an old 70s Fiat at front and rear looks like an 80s Bentley Turbo.

I would rather go for this:

The W126 was a sports saloon when it wanted to be.......but with quite a lot of body roll. It looked like it had massive suspension travel on those front springs and dampers.

To use the word sport associated with that car may a bit of a stretch. The v8s I drove had nice oomph at the time, handling for a car its size was masterclass though. Lots of travel for nyc potholes and this teenager at the time was pushing them way too hard. The 300 sd diesel could be enjoyed in a spirited fashion as well. Very missed.
