Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

Automotive media outlets speculate some 4850mm in overall length and approx. 1900mm in width w/o rearview mirrors. So, a bit larger than the upcoming MMA CLA sedans.

The MB.EA platform is said to be dedicated BEV ONLY. However, I would not be surprised were M-B feverishly working in order to find ways of incorporating a complementary ICE Hybrid/EREV version as well. Similar to the modus operandi that SMART is now taking with its new #5 model. Perhaps somehow incorporating some sort of compact front subframe that could accomodate a very compact ICE ? But hey...I'm no engineer, so what do I know anyhow...

There's no need, they're going to be running the MRA II platform for longer in parallel which will have hybrid versions.
This would be a dream, but Mercedes is already going back to cost cutting and this level of quality is well beyond too expensive for them. The 57/62 were solid hunks of mega luxury cars with amazing interior detailing.

Let's have some perspective though - when the 57 launched, it was $315,000 in 2004. Expecting the Maybach S-class to match that at a $204k starting price with today's dollar is a recipe for disappointment. And contrary to some others, I still don't think the market is ready for a true Maybach. Ultra luxury sedans are a tough sell when it's not a Rolls-Royce. Even Bentley had to retreat somewhat when the Mulsanne went away.

@Serpens

I agree they can't engineer or make a car like the 56 and 57 in terms of price it will be like crazy

I am thinking they can make a more bespoke level slightly above what they have now on the S ...GL and definitely theu could make a G wagon.woth a world class interior

Something a little different, new Mercedes Caravans and motor homes.

The Caravan Motor Touristik trade fair – CMT for short – in Stuttgart from 18 to 26 January 2024 invites you to discover holiday ideas and travel destinations from all over the world. As the largest new product show for caravans at the start of the season, the trade fair not only offered exciting inspiration for the next Journey, but also an impressive selection of vehicles and equipment. Especially for caravanning enthusiasts, the CMT was a must-attend event to experience the latest models and innovations in the industry. For us, the focus was on one thing: the Vans and semi-integrated models based on the Mercedes-Benz vehicle range.

Mercedes-Benz in focus: The highlights of CMT 2025
The CMT 2025 offered the perfect opportunity to see some of the most impressive motorhomes to be found on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter live. For us, it was the first time that we had used the models Carthago C1-tourer T, Hymer ML-T Xperience and Eura Mobil Profila T-Series on site – and most of them impressed all along the line. The Carthago C1-tourer T impresses with its combination of sportiness and comfort. With different layouts and a spacious raised floor basement, the model not only offers plenty of storage space, but also a high degree of flexibility for travelers who focus on comfort and functionality. The Hymer ML-T Xperience, on the other hand, combines luxurious equipment with well thought-out Design. Special highlights are the HYMER Smartbattery system, a diesel hot air heater and the combination with the well-known MBUXmultimedia system from Mercedes-Benz. This equipment not only offers comfort, but also makes the vehicle independent of external infrastructure for longer journeys.

The Eura Mobil Profila T-Series is another vehicle based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. It combines elegance with functionality. The heated double floor and the optionally available "Natural Heritage" living environment underline the demand for exclusivity and comfort. The winter-proof design makes this vehicle particularly attractive for trips to colder regions.

In addition to these established models, Hymer recently presented a real innovation: the Grand Canyon S 700. This vehicle expands the Grand Canyon series with a longer version with just under seven meters and thus closes for me everything that the S 600 – which we have already tested – was missing. The longitudinally arranged single beds, the innovative swivel bathroom and the extensive equipment for self-sufficient travel make the S 700 a personal highlight of the trade fair.

Eura Mobil also introduced the Xtura, another model that was specially designed for long-distance travel and demanding off-road conditions. With a 4×4 drive, a robust, wood-free construction and self-sufficiency features such as a 330Ah lithium battery and solar systems, the Xtura is a real all-rounder for adventures in the wilderness.

Conclusion: Progress and anticipation
The visit to CMT 2025 clearly showed how much the industry is developing. The models are not only getting better and higher quality, but also set standards in terms of comfort and comfort. Technology. The use of first-class materials and well-thought-out designs reflects the manufacturers' claim to constantly improve the caravanning experience.

Of course, this development also has its price, and many of the vehicles presented are now in higher price ranges. Nevertheless, the variety shows that the right model can be found for every requirement and every taste. For us, it was an inspiring visit to the trade fair, which not only made us want to travel, but also to put some of these models to the test in practice during the year. We look forward to experiencing their qualities on the road and in nature for ourselves.

Can't imagine EV GT 4 Door having success when Taycan is a flop.. Rather take the W214 platform and make it into ICE/Hybrid for next gen GT 4 Door.

Taycan is a flop due to it's price. And especially due to it's hype/flipper situation

Flippers created this situation. And some Porsche dealers

"Flop" is arguably a bit harsh. The Taycan was, in fact, an inititially very successful car in terms of unit sales. However, a number of wrenches were thrown into the works of automobildom from the full outbreak Corona pandemic onwards. The general environment for BEVs has become "politically" hostile in some, but not all, key markets. What is most disturbing is the collapse of resale values, but that is probably of subordinate significance to those who lease or the "must have" buyers who are indifferent towards any argument that their "investment" was not "financially prudent". It's their money after all and if they see their purchase as an "investment in the soul", that's all fine and good.

High price is normal for a Porsche, but average range/efficiency and not so luxurious interior was disappointing. Range was fixed in the facelift however the software is the same and still very basic.

EQS/E are also flops because they are expensive and look weird. If Mercedes put a good battery in S or C class, sales would be much better.

Taycan was initially successful but after 2 years started to flop and now isn't successful at all, MB customers in Europe, US and China don't seek fast BEVs. Only interested in vehicles with engine so ICE or MHEV/PHEV.

Indeed. And one would have to acknowledge just looking at the KBA's figures, the Taycan is still amongst the best selling vehicle in it's segment (that includes ICEs) for the past 4 months, for example 506 units in December, a 3.1% increase over last year's December figures (compared to 15 units of the Model S (an 82.4% drop over 2023), 20 units of the Lucid Air, 40 units of the Audi etron GT, 4 units of the Lotus Emeya, 9 units of the Nio ET7 and 358 units of the Mercedes S Class (that includes the EQS), a 13.9% drop over last year). And this in the very challenging market for BEVs in Germany since the BEV subsidies were rescinded in December 2023.

Of course, the bulk of these are company car sales but this is true for all most all vehicles in this segment.

The Taycan was riding the following waves:
-GT3 and GT4 wait listing climbers
-Covid supply shortage
-Early EV hype and tide shifting from diesels

The AMG GT won't have any of these tail winds.

I think any EV will face significant headwinds compared to ICE models becuase of the lack of any meaningful resale value. Depreciation, I reason, hits EVs much harder due to the much higher obsolescence rate of the powertrain technology. Think, for example, the leap even Taycan took in range in the facelift, let along the leap AMG GT EV will have compared to an EQS. Who will pay for an EQS at 55 to 65 percent of its price two or three years from original on-service date (such as a used vehicle coming off lease)?! I’d need a heck of a price incentive to plunk for a used Taycan, especially not knowing what the long-term reliability or operability is for an EV. I mean, will I experience 50 percent of the original range or 10 percent? If EV batteries go same as phone batteries, I’d expect the latter, which makes EVs highly disposable (not durable) consumer goods. That is not good at mid five USD figures.

If it has better range than the initial Taycans, then maybe that could mitigate. But on the whole, premium EVs will probably struggle.
Unless its just insanely desirable due to some magic.
