Hot! Mercedes-Benz, What's Next?

I think any EV will face significant headwinds compared to ICE models becuase of the lack of any meaningful resale value. Depreciation, I reason, hits EVs much harder due to the much higher obsolescence rate of the powertrain technology. Think, for example, the leap even Taycan took in range in the facelift, let along the leap AMG GT EV will have compared to an EQS. Who will pay for an EQS at 55 to 65 percent of its price two or three years from original on-service date (such as a used vehicle coming off lease)?! I’d need a heck of a price incentive to plunk for a used Taycan, especially not knowing what the long-term reliability or operability is for an EV. I mean, will I experience 50 percent of the original range or 10 percent? If EV batteries go same as phone batteries, I’d expect the latter, which makes EVs highly disposable (not durable) consumer goods. That is not good at mid five USD figures.

Agreed.

Jaguars EV only strategy could be a disaster in the making.

Can you quantify better mile in a way that would also be economically and technologically feasible for Mercedes.
Well AMG.EA is supposed to be using their new battery chemistry that's being introduced in the e-CLA as well as new AMG-specific axial flow motors that are more power dense and efficient.
The new cell chemistry is supposed to be more energy dense, so either lighter weight at ISO range, or more range at ISO weight. We'll see what this amounts to in a couple of years I suppose.

Absolutely. For those who purchase rather than lease.

Absolutely, without reservation. And we appear to be quite a ways from reaching a plateau in which the possibilities of significant improvements have been exhausted.

Just for the record: Germanys Autobild conducted a long-term 100,000km review of the first gen J.1 Taycan 4S back in early 2023. The degree of battery degradation was reported to be very low and the car was otherwise rated to be rock solid. Keep in mind, these Autobild test cars are hardly being pampered and nursed. Quite the opposite, actually.

All the evidence so far points to batteries being a lot more durable than first anticipated.

Porsche don't even offer the "lower power charging" facility on the facelifted Taycan. It was something you could select in the PCM; charge at 200 kW maximum in order to preserve the wear and tear on the battery. It was discovered that it just wasn't needed on the facelifted Taycan.

Given how recently they changed the front end of the electric C-class, I very much doubt the the front and rear end graphics are locked in. The overall shape won't change, but everything else - especially that rear end, aren't finished I imagine.

While not entirely appreciated at this angle, there's a lot of proportional differences between the CLA and EQE that save it. Current gen CLA looks best though.
