i8 Leaked? BMW i8 Spyder

The BMW i8 is a plug-in hybrid sports car developed by BMW. The i8 was part of BMW's electrified fleet and was marketed under the BMW i sub-brand. The production version of the BMW i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and was released in Germany in June 2014. Deliveries to retail customers in the U.S. began in August 2014. A roadster variant was launched in May 2018. Production ended in June 2020.
Published yesterday, very good video for realization and content, relaxed, detailed and eloquent.

It took a while...but...I have grown to really like the i8. Especially in more subdued, elegant configurations. It remains very modern while not appearing merely fashionable.

I like these turbine-blade wheels. Really suits the image of the car.

Here in Frozen Black. In a dystopian setting.:p

Definitely the most successful top-end BMW model so far. Way better than M1, E31 8er and Z8.

I'm not sure I'd use those cars as a benchmark for the success of the i8, the E31 sold more units and is generally considered to have not reached the potential for a large BMW coupe... the M1 only saw out the necessary homologation requirements for racing, and the Z8 was hand built, limited production.

BMW i8 hybrid sports car to end production in April
Plug-in flagship will bow out to make way for an all-new line of bespoke electric cars

"Exact production figures have not yet been released, although the German car maker confirmed the 20,000th example of the i8 was produced in December 2019 as part of Ultimate Sophisto Edition production. This places it well ahead of previous BMW sports cars in terms of production numbers; production of the M1, launched in 1978, reached 399 units, while production of the Z8, introduced in 2000, was limited to 5000 units."

The farewell of one of the cars that made me dream the most and for so long, a technological and prestigious icon, hopefully its replacement will come soon

The farewell of one of the cars that made me dream the most...

A possible successor to the i8 is still under question, even though some reports of a future M NEXT with electrified powertrain emerged. But, due to the CoVID-19 worldwide outbreaks, norms, rules and plans are rewritten.

At the moment, it is quite doubtful that we see another halo model to replace the i8 in the following 3-4 years.

Especially this photograph leaves me appreciating the i8 all the more. And frankly, it also leaves me a bit sad that the i8 could not command more attention, more genuine interest and more acceptance in the marketplace.

Especially the green example in the forefront is simply STUNNING.

It's an amazing car - one that's totally misunderstood and deemed to be over-priced - that never garnered the appreciation it deserved. The i8 was an exercise in realising a viable, futuristic alternative to the traditional sports car. Many people saw it as a direct rival to established models like the 911; from a price point, this certainly was the case and ultimately led to the i8 being measured against competitors which were similar in price yet entirely dissimilar in ethos.

The fact is, if you were in the market for a 911, you'd buy a 911. Or an R8 for that matter. The i8 was clearly aimed at enthusiasts with a different set of motivations.
