Is this the iPhone 5? UPDATE: Apple introduces iPhone 4S

^I think it's the budget 8GB iphone 4S..the iphone 5 still a mystery.

It would have been fine for Apple to release an iPhone 4S, looking exactly like the 4, with the kinks ironed out and boosted specs, but they would have had to release that in June. Now they have the market revved up and they have to deliver two different phones, which seems too complicated for the usually simple line of iPhones. I just want the phone out now.

CNET: “Priceless” iPhone 5 prototype lost in a bar, possibly sold on Craigslist for $200

There are a couple possible truths to this story. First, Apple employees frequent bars with unreleased devices, and second, the San Fransisco bar Cava 22 is getting more free publicity than they ever dreamed of. Last year an iPhone 4 prototype went missing in a bar and eventually sold to Gizmodo for $5k where they put it online for the world see. Now, according to CNET a similar scenario has happened, but has yet to leak online. Apparently in July an Apple employee went to Cava 22 where he misplaced the next iPhone. This sent Apple execs scrambling where they contact the Police “saying the device was priceless and the company was desperate to secure its safe return”. Nothing has showed up and CNET says their source says it might have been “sold on Craigslist for $200″. Not so priceless after all.

What do you think of this story? True or false?

Who knows what is going on with that story. The police was contacted by reporters and told them that they never received a report from Apple for an iPhone having gone missing nor did they visit the house of anyone.

Surely this latest missing iphone incident is a PR stunt, the timing and the similarity with the previous event is just too good to be true.

Those new dimensions look infinitely superior, and it sort makes the iPhone 4 look instantly weird. Too narrow.

Agreed. I prefer Android (Samsung), but this will seriously be one hot phone!

Yeah, I saw this earlier. Also, it is supposed to be tapered towards the bottom, which many have said is going to be weird considering landscape mode and the imbalance in your hand. We'll have to see what it turns out to be. It is entirely possible that the iPod touch is the one that will have the tapered bottom, but that still would be odd.

I hope Apple can keep up with the competition... really, the iOS has too many constraints and its sweet spot/perfection will only go to a certain extent... iOS is probably one of the least flexible OS and now that Android is continually improving, i'm afraid the iOS will need to change drastically to keep up with the competition. Honestly also, i still own a 3GS.. a while ago i really wanted a 4 but that would be such a bad move because everything is exactly the same, apart from a better screen and faster hardware. rational people probably wouldn't change from the 4 to the 5 now.. i mean this unique strategy worked for the last X years but i don't see it continuing too much longer. HTC Evo 3D is such an amazing device, 3D screen, 3D camera, Apple doesn't have these technology in-house i'd guess, so how are they going to keep up?

Unfortunately, it seems that Android is really not winning as much market share as Google would want. In certain aspects, they are losing market share in others they are pretty stagnate. While people will criticize iOS, it simply works and is a really good and dependable operating system. Apple perfected iOS, which is one of the reasons why the iPad is so successful. There is more that goes into designing these things.

As far as Apple getting sued by Samsung, sure that may happen, but I highly doubt that they will be found to be infringing on an evolutionary design of the originally iPhone. First and foremost, the current iPhone has glass on both the front and the back and has the antenna on embedded in the aluminum ring that surrounds the phone. If apple changes this or not, or if apple moves towards something that looks like an iPad but in smaller form, they will not be infringing on any patents that pertain to Samsung. Sorry guys.

There is a lot more the goes into IP law than something looking like something else. When it comes to these products, it is the operating system plus the looks none of which Apple has copied, but instead, the competition has.

With respect to the HTC Evo 3D, yeah it is a nice, cool, pretty, and awesome phone. I am not going to deny it. However, I seem to agree with Engadget's opinion when it comes to this phone. Look here:

"The EVO 3D is a well made handset that improves upon the EVO 4G in terms of raw horsepower -- as such, it lives up to its flagship status. That being said, it's also a step back in some areas (the lack of kickstand comes to mind). While the qHD screen provides a welcome boost in pixel density, the overall display performance still lags behind the competition. Sense 3.0 leaves us cold, and now that other carriers are rolling out HSPA+ and LTE networks, WiMAX no longer feels like the new kid on the block. Despite the EVO 3D's 1.2GHz dual-core processor, the camera strangely lacks 1080p support, and the EVO 4G arguably captures nicer stills thanks to better optics and firmware. But our biggest gripe with the EVO 3D is its terrible battery life, which is even worse than what we observed on the already lackluster EVO 4G. As for 3D, we're not convinced it's fully baked yet -- right now it feels like a gimmick, but we're willing to wait and see how it develops beyond the initial "gee wiz" phase. Ultimately, we've come to think of the EVO 3D as a Sensation with a lesser camera, cheaper materials, worse battery life, and without the ability to roam worldwide. But hey, it's got 3D and the best dedicated two-stage camera button that's ever graced a phone. That's gotta be worth something, right?"

The 3D technology, at least for phones, will take some time. Apple will not implement 3D, at least not now, until there is a proven, reliable, and good method. Also, this whole iPhone vs. Android war really reminds me of that Car and Driver review that picked the M3 over the corvette. Though, there were countless people screaming, yelling, and complaining that it was stupid to do such a thing, I think C&D was right in saying that, while the Corvette is faster in the straight line, the M3 was an overall well-rounded car. Fast, sporty, handles great, etc. That is what I think about when I see the iPhone. Yeah, there are other phone that have faster processors, but the iPhone has overall excellent battery compared to the competition. Furthermore, when you have a company such as apple that is designing both the hardware and the software in house, you get a better advantage. Perhaps this is what Google will bring to the table once they implement their motorola branch that they recently acquired. We will have to wait and see that.

However, there is no denying that Apple has always had an advantage over Android and it is clear from the fact that Apple only has one phone, and it is still so immensely popular among the masses while android has had countless phones, some that are good others that have failed, and it has taken Google a while to really work out the bugs in some of the versions they have released. I think that advantage alone is what will continued to separate apple from the competition. At least, it is clear with respect to the tablet market. Apple has capitalized on that and moved way faster than they did with the iPhone because they saw the potential and the market share they could dominate.

I for one do not want my next iPhone to be any larger. In fact, I want it to be the smallest it can be while accommodating its current screen size, which I feel was never an issue. This is still a mobile phone. Mobility has to be a priority. I put my iPhone in my front pant pockets all the time, and if it gets any bigger, i am afraid it is not going to be as "mobile."

Also, regarding the form factor, I would consider the adaptation of an iPad look to be a step back for the iPhone. Abandoning the current direction would be a shame as well. When you hold an iPhone 4, you get the sense of a tank-like build quality, as if the whole thing was hewn out of a single solid marble block. I was never a fan of the design shift from the original iPhone to the 3g/s, as the latter looked so cheap in comparison.

^^ I was kidding. But to respond to your comment, Android has been kicking a$$ hence Apple's sue tactics and it's all thanks to Samsung. Apple is still the market leader but they're kinda running scared and are resorting to dirty tactics to keep the competition at bay. That's my opinion by the way.
