Such an impact (valves to piston) ussually leaves a spot on the conrod/piston bolt bush and on the conrod bearings to the cranckshaft, which later lead to premature wearing, disbalance and vibrations.Back in the day, a good old friend did the same with his E46Ci, managed to bend all 12 exhaust valves. He had them all replaced, but if I recall correctly, he didn't touch anything from the flange down.
