Such an impact (valves to piston) ussually leaves a spot on the conrod/piston bolt bush and on the conrod bearings to the cranckshaft, which later lead to premature wearing, disbalance and vibrations.
The Toyota Yaris is a supermini/subcompact car sold by Toyota since 1999, replacing the Starlet and Tercel.

I'm no mechanic but perhaps the (apparent) small amount of piston damage was a determining factor in them not looking further for any bottom-end damage?
Given the forces that act upon the gudgeon pin, con-rod and bearings - I can only assume that the level of damage to the piston wasn't sufficient to be of concern.

Forces in normal operation are very different than an impact steel in steel.
The chance is that most probably the impact was a case of a dropped valve, that is free moving and not like in a case of bad timing, when the valve has no free move.

I tend to agree.
Well, that's how I understand it. It was a dropped valve, free floating until it got bent.

It is a fantastic car for sure! But I am not sold on the design, should have looked a little more special. Not impressed of the design of the other Toyota sportscars either. The GT86 and GR86 looks like a Huyndai Coupe and the Supra is to busy with all its fake vents...

I have bought myself also a GR all i can say this thing rocks. As a drivers car you can‘t find anything better.
it is lightweigh, it has a manual handbrake which works, it has mechanical diffs, The car is pure driving.
