Autocar is roadtesting the GR Yaris in their latest issue!
No rev limiter can save you with a manual gearbox (when you shift from third into second insted of fourth).Doesn’t it have a rev-limiter?
Detailed explanation in this video :Robert Mitchell? It was driver error. He miss-shifted near redline(3rd to 2nd, I believe) and the engine over-revved. It damaged the bearings and rocker arm.

If I got it right in the video, he did 5th to 2ndHow can you shift from 3rd into 2nd by mistake...more like 3rd and 4th.
it is called money shift.
...and that is why manufacturers put in Rev matching these days people can’t drive manual anymore. 5th to 2nd is a lovely money shift, won’t be surprised if Toyota has RM in future.
Detailed explanation in this video :
In such a case, usually the piston bolt, its bush and the bearings of the conrod of the hit piston should be also replaced. Strange, that they didn't even inspect these. And here's the rest, explaining what the mechanical failure was.
Very interesting.
