Spectre [Hot!] Rolls-Royce 'Spectre' EV

The Rolls-Royce Spectre is a full-sized luxury electric grand tourer manufactured by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The first deliveries of the car were made in the last quarter of 2023. It is Rolls-Royce's first electric vehicle (EV) and rides on the same platform as the Phantom and Cullinan.
Yeah level 3 is basically where it starts to slightly take over. At level 5 I think you can simply go sit in the backseat.

Mercedes only speak of Level 3 in the context of UN Regulation 157, which only applies to the operational design domain of automated lane keeping activities (in specific highway scenarios i.e. physically separated carriageways). It's misleading to simply call the car level 3, as the implication is that the car will function autonomously in any scenario with the level 3 division of responsibilities... which it can't.

Jesus..... talk about deceiving and downright pathetic. Level 3 in one domain while not working in 20 other domains (or how many domains there might actually be).

Are you still laughing @leylandi?

Edit; we're steering completely off topic (only level 2 though), but this is an interesting chart showing the levels:

It's not just Mercedes though, BMWs approvals will likely be exactly the same. In fairness to the car manufacturers regulations don't exist to cover all scenarios, so as capable or not as their technology may be, it's only when its regulated that it's required for type approval and a legitimate claim can be made by the manufacturer.

Roadtrip in it? I would sleep in it. Well done to RR for making their first EV a 2 seater coupe rather than turning the Phantom or Cullinan into one. It's a risk adjusted approached.

What's deceptive? These have already been stated. We all know that Level 3 is not fully autonomous. Obtaining legal permits is not that easy. You are ignoring the obvious truth. Mercedes is the first manufacturer to put level 3 cars on the roads. You need to stop being jealous.

In December 2021, Mercedes-Benz became the first automotive company in the world to meet the demanding legal requirements of the international UN-R157 for a Level 3 system enabling conditionally automated driving. Mercedes-Benz is initially offering DRIVE PILOT in Germany, where 13,191 kilometres of motorway are approved for conditionally automated driving.

It initiates a radical paradigm shift that permits the vehicle to take over the dynamic driving task under certain conditions in heavy traffic or congestion situations on suitable sections of freeway currently up to a speed of 60 km/h. This ultimate luxury experience enables customers to win back precious time when in the car through relaxation or productivity. For instance, they can communicate with work colleagues via in-car office tools, write messages and emails via the head unit, browse the internet or just sit back, relax and watch a movie.

DRIVE PILOT has been available in Germany for S-Class and E-Class models since May 2022. Mercedes-Benz has also become the first automaker to receive corresponding approval in the U.S. states of California and Nevada. DRIVE PILOT will be available on the U.S. market as an optional extra for S Class and E Class models in model year 2024. The first vehicles are expected to be delivered to customers at the end of 2023.

When I see your dumb shit, always.

I get that, but I was just pointing out Mercedes because why the hell not? Leylandi had to drag them in yet again so let's call them out..

Exactly why BMW combined level 2 and level 3 in one system, since level 3 is almost nowhere legal yet AFAIK (correct me if I am wrong).

Level 2 and 3 are completely redundant BTW. Many manufacurers won't even go there and completely skip it. Level 4 is where it really starts.

You're still not getting it.

It's not that Level 3 isn't fully autonomous - it's that Mercedes (and BMW) are making the claim based on having one system (a lane keeping system with certain lane change abilities mandated), for one scenario (up to 60km/h on median separated carriageways) that operates within the remit of Level 3, hence it's only Level 3 on about 5% of Germany's roads - it can't drive autonomously the rest of the time even given the not-fully-autonomous-requirements of Level 3.

And again, part of this is simply because it doesn't appear to be fully regulated yet, not necessarily because of the tech on hand.

Try reading what I shared

Its use in a restricted area is a result of the law. For example, Digital light projection cannot be used in every country. I don't understand why the discussion came here. You even accused Mercedes of being deceptive. You should cut the nonsense.

Why don't you just shut the f#ck up about Mercedes?

I think autonomy is a perfect fit for Rolls Royce, which is what this whole discussion is all about. I do not care a single bit about Mercedes' pathetic marketing claims. And I care even less about what you think of it.

Does anyone here know if the Rolls Royce Spectre will get a black badge version? I see some mods from RDB LA where the 'base' Spectre is blacked out and it looks absolutely gorgeous, was just wondering if RR would make a Black Badge version for the model

I wonder what's next for the RR. They must have some interesting data on what customers think of the Spectre, BMW i7 and whether they want an electric cullinan or Phantom.

In hope it's a new cabrio or roadster. Both are overdue. A proper new Dawn sounds fantastic.
