C-Class [Hot!] 2022 Mercedes-AMG C63S (W206)

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a series of compact executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the 190 (W201) range, the C-Class was the smallest model in the marque's line-up until the W168 A-Class arrived in 1997.

For me hybrids are quite senseless. Either an EV or an ICE. Why should I be so stupid, to have two different powertrains in one car, with all the weight, potential technical problems, maintenance costs etc. that come with it?
If Porsche does any better, I don’t know, but doubt it. Because many of the hard- and software concerning the hybrid powertrain comes from companies like Bosch, Continental and Siemens, to name a few.

But Porsche have Rimac Automobili now too. In fact I read they were/are assisting with the carbon fibre monocouqe chassis construction let alone anything else for the Porsche Mission X.:)

Rimac is nothing. It's a group of enthustiasts with an excellent knowlege in a narrow field of electrical engineering. They can be of very little use to Porsche if any. Most of the noise there is a marketing PR of VAG to let people believe that something great is cooking. Neither Mate is the manager, that they are trying to convince us he is.

"Bots" thats's what you said or implied with no foundation previously yes? Well same applies in reverse. No clarifications needed.

And he's achieved more in one decade than you could in ten.

"Rimac is nothing".

I just don't care for this car. I don't see the appeal. Might as well just get a C300 and call it a day.

Just curious, what's the consensus been over at MBWorld? Since they tend to be more heavily biased towards Mercs, is it very much appreciated, overly condemned or somewhere in between? Have past C63 (or E63 and other supersedans) owners expressed interest in this?

I haven't been over there in a very, very long time indeed, I could, at some point look I guess!🙂

Ditto, it's been at least a decade, if not more, since I've been there. GCF and a couple aggregator sites are my main source for feeding my automotive curiosity. Alas, the days of deep-diving for automotive info are behind me.

Yes about that length of time maybe more. I last remember following an American guy trying to supercharge his Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series. I can't recall seeing it finished. Marriage and raising a family took precedence.

As for deep diving well I Love it still!

After 1.5 years of driving a hybrid Panamera I agree, the electric drive of the hybrid system isn't good enough at the moment because it adds too much weight for only 50km of range and not much power. On Sport mode I'm driving a Porsche, when I switch to electric its an e-UP.

Recently I've tested the latest Panamera Turbo S non-hybrid and I liked it way more because it felt lighter and braking feel its more confidence inspiring, especially with carbon brakes.

This C63 has very little electric range and it's probably slow on EV mode too.

As I understand it, AMG is using the battery only for boosting, not for electric range.

You understand wrong my friend. It has an astounding electric only range of -

That's why Merc is looking to collab with someone who actually knows what they're doing with BEVs: Rimac. Heard a rumor about the new AMG GT and Rimac's involvement because MB can't handle BEVs (yet)...

Mercedes Benz or actually Daimler bought out English Electric OEM Yasa not long ago. I'd of thought they'd have the needed research and development projects in house.

But manufacturers sometimes use multiple OEM suppliers anyway so it wouldn't surprise.🙂

If that's the only reason then its a useless hybrid since there's no range to talk about and efficiency is similar as to the previous V8.
Why complicate the drivetrain when you can simply put the I6 and add the fancy electric turbos.

There's a video about the Ferrari 296GTB regards hybridity I believe in the appropriate section. It might be of interest.

Yes, Ferrari did the hybrid well because they managed to keep the weight pretty low at under 1700 kg.
