Both engines are twin-turbocharged and feature direct injection, with the larger engine most likely to be used by the Mini Cooper S.
That's not correct. Both engines have a single turbocharger.
The MINI brand is possibly the best proof that downsizing can still be massive fun. And with today's announcement, downsizing to a MINI will be even more fun and even more economical. For starters, the future MINI line-up will be getting the latest "Twin Power Turbo" three and four cylinder engines from BMW, with a 1.5l and 2.0l displacement respectively. Both engines feature direct fuel injection, variable camshaft control on both the intake and outlet sides (dual VANOS) and the more powerful versions even have BMW's fully variable valve control system, the VALVETRONIC. The diesel engines also have a turbocharger and the latest generation common rail direct injection.
Regarding the exterior design, I don't know what to think. It seems like all they did was to take the distinctive design cues from the R56 and just make them slightly bigger: bigger head lights, bigger intakes, bigger fog lights, bigger rear lights.. etc.
