Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

Look back on my previous posts to where I say the 7er benchmark for dynamics is the Maserati Quattroporte , And you will see if they decided to photograph it a silver and dark blue Quattroporte.

The rules have changed now - Luxury barges do not have to be just "luxury"
This 7er is the reason why there will not be an M model of course because of Overlap with the M5 (Which is all the car you need for the segment) To the hardline performance production car of the BMW CS concept.

Yes there will be no M7 as it is not suitable but there will be a 745i powered by a twin-turbo V8 the engine that is featured here, remember it is a prototype so there is no need for designation and plastic cover yet.

- The engine will make it's appearance first in the X6 and then the 7er. And will then feature in the X5 , and the 5er , 6er replacements.

If there is any indication of the true potential of the N64B44O1 engine, I believe the Alpina B7 is a good reference point, and I agree that an engine configuration with such potency and a well designed chassis:the F01+N64B44O1 combination will deliver.
It will be interesting to know what the engineers decide to power the 760i with-will it be an N64B50O1 engine or N84B50 engine? From what I make out of your post, it seems N64B50 might be the engine choice- we shall see.
Sounds like some exciting stuff coming out with respect to the engine options.

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

A V8 TT? That sounds nice to me... I expect that one to produce at least 480hp, while i also expect the new 6.0L V12 to pump minimum, MINIMUM 550hp... NA of course, no turbos and $h!t...:D

OK, regardless of how it sounds, i'm serious, especially concerning V12 engine.;)

No, hp isn't everything, but some serious updates are needed, competition will force them i hope!

The old 6.0 L V12 produced up 700 hp, so a new with some F1 goodies could produce an extra 500 horses or so till it overheats and is discovered as the main reason for global warming. :D :D :D

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

Which one? The one from McLaren? That one doesn't count! I'm talking about the one in 760i/760Li...

I have the feeling that the 4.4 litre TT V8 will be limited to 420 HP & 420 ft.lbs of Torque

Sorry, but that sounds impossible. I expect the NA version of the 5 liter engine alone to have at least 400, 410 hp.....The Mercedes NA V8 '500' engine already has 390 hp, and BMW will surely have more from it's brand new V8
And what's with this 4.4 engine btw? It doesn't exist anymore. The latest V8 as found in the 550/650/750/X5 has a 4.8 liter engine.

And I agree with Tyc about the new V12. 550 hp is a nice number. Anything below it will disappoint me personally.

I also think they will rate it at 420 - 440 HP to distance it enough from the V10 - same way the 335 is rated at 300hp though by all accounts it makes more.

The engine will be capable of a lot more as we have seen with the Alpina B5/B7 engine which uses the same 4.4 litre V8 with superchargers.

The problem with BMW is that there is an S85(5.0 litre V10) engine, and with that in mind they would like to maintain some gap between it the N64B44O1 engine.
With all these factors taken into consideration, it is my limited opinion that they will limit HP and Torque to between 400 and 450.
The other possibility is for BMW to put Torque and Power between 450-500 and confine the N64B44O1 engine to the X6 and F01, and delay the introduction of this engine to the 5er till the F10 M5 engine gets an increase in displacement.
Just my two cents.

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

V8 4.8L already produces 367hp, right? So, if we add TT to 4.4L, i expect at least 450hp. Ok, i maybe exaggerated a little bit with 480hp (didn't had V10 in mind), but still, it should produce that amount of power. A V8 TT with "only" 410 hp or such would be a shame...

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

That has to be the lowest, furthest back and most secluded V8 I've ever seen! Thanks Scott for the info...

New 7's going to be spectacular (and I've always loved my Sevens - except for the current "bloblights" facelift) and BMW has the benefit of building upon all of the ground-breaking and benchmark-setting attributes of the current car. The E65 7er was the car that completely redefined the segment and despite waning sales, I feel that, technologically, the car remains the standard by which all the others are measured.

The challenges and resistance experienced by BMW in bring such innovation and revolution to the market have been weathered by the Bavarian maker and now's the time for the risk to pay dividends. The new 7er won't shock and polarise the luxo-barge buyer I expect... These consumers have been "toughened up" and made more receptive thanks to the groundwork done by its controversial forebear.

I remember the day I first laid eyes on, sat inside and drove a new 7er. It changed my world there and then - it was a very good day. I look forward to this new one just as eagerly.

Re: F01 BMW 7er - first spy pics

V8 bi-turbo? Bring it on! :D

PS. The Quattroporte better be updated with 500+bhp by the time F01 is out... ;)

The V10 is not the standard to go by imo. Engine development never stops. The next RS6 is supposed to have 579 hp, and the next gen E-class is bound to have around that number too.
BMW would be better off to give the next NA V8 around 410/420 hp (current S500 has 388 hp), the V8 TT around 460/470 hp and a M5 V10 Competition Package with 550 hp to combat the RS6

The V10 can be updated in the blink of an eye.

Very true- engine development never stops. If I am not mistaken there is a certain tax implication for engine displacements over a certain figure, and the taxation level increases with displacement increase.
Perhaps that could be partly responsible for choosing a 4.4 litre TT V8 to replace the 4.8 NA V8- I don't know.

You are right on the basis of the V10 not being the standard, however it could be the reason why this N64B44O1 engine will not be introduced to the E60 till the next S85 engine is ready.
If the new 4.4 litre TT V8 will not make it to the E60 by 2009, then BMW will be free to raise the power of this power-plant to 450 and above. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, the engine is capable of the numbers the Alpina supercharged version delivers.
